A clique is a tight group of people who do not necessarily click with each other, but contain a very strict code of membership and ways to act as stated in the article 'coping with cliques' by Kids Health (2013). This circle of people mainly focus on their appearance, maintaining their social status, and often times being hurtful to others. Members from these certain cliques think of themselves as being better than anyone outside their group, and in their minds they are thought of as 'the cool kids'. People in cliques are unlike normal groups of friends. Firstly they do not socialize with other people outside their group, which means they do everything together, such as sitting together in lunch, and in the classroom, and even after school. Secondly they use their power to purposely make others feel badly about themselves. For example, telling someone they need to get makeover or constantly rejecting and excluding innocent people. Yet, many are attracted to the idea of being part of a clique and there are a number of reasons why. For instance, being popular is a major concern for most people, and therefore joining a clique gives them a social rank. Others might join these types of groups in order not to feel left out or excluded, and think it is better to be part of a bad clique than to not be part of anything at all. In addition, having power and control over certain matters, either in a positive or negative way, is also considered a reason why many wish to be part of this circle of people.
