For a long time, it has been known that Marijuana has a therapeutic value for various patients. However, in the 1970’s it was made illegal by the federal government because it was classified as a highly addictive drug with big medical value. Therefore, it was extremely difficult for researches to conduct any research in the past. It wasn’t until about 20 years ago that scientists discovered that marijuana lead to a response in the endocannabinoid system. This system plays a pivotal role in the body’s many different functions such as in the hear along with the different systems of the body. This finding spark the interests of many researchers in order to conduct further research to find specific chemical in the marijuana that could be used to target certain conditions. Marijuana smoke contains about 60 chemicals called cannabinoids which need to be explored in order to understand the consequences of using this drug. Convictions for dealing with this drug has ruined many lives and it is one of the reasons why the incarceration rates are so high in the U.S. The police spend a lot of time arresting marijuana smokers, who are otherwise for this crime, are law-abiding citizens. Additionally, this will allow the drug to be a taxable substance for the government to benefit from.
