In Chapter Four of Holler If You Hear Me by Gregory Michie, the author describes how some of the other veteran teachers in his education classes expressed their views on the disconnect between education theory and classroom reality. Passion, respect, enthusiasm, professionalism, sensitivity, humor and heart are qualities in which principals seek to find in potential teachers. In an article by Gary Hopkins, What Qualities Do Principals Look for in a New Teacher, principals identified the most important qualities they seek in potential teachers. Gary Cardwell, a principal from Crocket Elementary School, stated, “It’s impossible to select one characteristic that sets a teacher candidate apart from others. I would never use a single characteristic to employ a teacher, rather I consider many characteristics as part of a mosaic that makes up an entire principal” (Hopkins, 2016). Harmer (1991,56) that the wise teacher no longer invites students to enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads them to the threshold of their own mind. In the article, “Edwin & Phyllis,” Lynn Fendler engages her readers with a meaningful dialogue between an experienced teacher and a prospective educator, debunking some of the more traditional responses that young, perspective teachers might give for wanting to become educators. The film poignantly illustrates the imperative need for a long overdue paradigm shift in American education. The answer to the question, “What should be the role of the 21st century teacher” is the same as it was for the first teacher, to provide a foundation which instructs students on how they should live their adult life. As stated, the role has not changed, but the methods used to effectively train students has been updated. Instead of using uniform strategies for all students, this century's effective teachers must design instruction that motivates each student by providing experiential, authentic, and challenging experiences. Steven M. Cahn in his article Guiding, Grading, and Guarding, is about several aspects in the life of a Teacher. In 2014, Energy Transfer Partners began construction of a pipeline that would connect North Dakota to Iowa, called the North Dakota Access Pipeline. It is also called the Bakken pipeline, since it is taking the crude oil from the Bakken oil fields in North Dakota. Since the beginning of the construction, there have been small protests from the local Native American Sioux tribe, but recently the protests have gotten much larger. Weekly Reflection, Week Six October Ninth 2017 marked the beginning of my sixth week interning. I have noticed that teaching is a lot of repetition with a slight change in lesson plan periodically.
