“Freedom is never really won, you earn it and win it in every generation” ~Coretta Scott King. This might be true for some people, but some people might disagree. For the people that disagree think that if we all stay peaceful we can all stay the way things are or even better. In my opinion people should stay free permanently because people should have to fight for something they have already earned many years ago.…

personal disaster to whoever said them until a wise group of americans foresaw how bad this could get and banded together to stop it from happening. When the government started suppressing the people’s rights the Civil Libertarians came together to warn the government from making the same mistakes it has made in the past regarding security. When it comes to our response as a nation to violence and terrorism like the events displayed on 9/11 the civil libertarians should play a much larger part. Because of the collective efforts of the civil libertarians they have successfully stopped for the most part our government from becoming a lot stricter. I personally believe they are not given as much credit as they should for their work and…

Freedom and liberty had many different meanings in American Revolution. During the war, freedom and liberty were desired by everyone but in various ways. The patriots, the loyalists, and the slaves all had different views on freedom. Freedom meant having no changes or going back to the days where there was no rebellion to loyalists like Mr. Lockton. Mr. Lockton defines freedom as having wealth and property while having the King rule the colonies without a rebellion.…

Despite this fact all Americans agree that this is one of our most important rights, and lays the foundation for our nations core beliefs. The first amendment is a short statement “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” (1) Though it holds a great deal of power, it upholds strong personal values, and sets a precedent for the future of our country.…

This is the statement also found in the Declaration of Independence itself and is, in my opinion, the thing that makes America the best nation in the world and a nation that other countries model themselves after. Every human being has the right to life – no one should ever have the right to take another person’s life. God is the only one with that right. Liberty is another word for freedom. No one human being should ever have the right to control the future of another human being or make decisions for another human being.…

The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms can be seen as all-encompassing, and yet, it does not dictate the rules to follow regarding a major component of each person’s life: employment. Or does it? A vast portion of our lives in Canada is spent working, and regardless of the work environment, we interact with other people who may or may not come from the same backgrounds and ideologies as we do. With no specific terminology in the Charter that includes employment law, we must look between the lines and find the connections that lay within. The Charter provides the roadmap for Canadian principles and social values; it lays out the rights and freedoms we have as a people, and promotes the protection of those human rights through its laws.…

There are many purposes of punishment. One of the immediate things that come to mind is the war on drugs for the increase in incarceration rate.…

Freedom is something that must be repeatedly won by a group of people. It cannot be won all at once. For one, people who are against granting freedoms to a certain group of people will fight to make sure that it is not able to obtain full freedom. For example, in the case of gaining civil rights for colored people in the U.S., many people who believed that the white race was the supreme race hindered the obtainment of full freedom for African Americans.…

On a cold day in January of 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt spoke to the country and addressed certain freedoms that he believed American citizens should have. These included freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. These are the basic freedoms we have as Americans, yet it was important to emphasize their importance in a time where the Great Depression had just ended, World War II had just begun, the Cold War was eminent, and modern-day America was emerging. While this was a hefty promise, these freedoms mostly succeeded, yet there are instances, especially in times of war, where these freedoms failed. Freedom of speech is the most basic right that is given to Americans by the United States Constitution.…

Freedom is a short word, but its meaning is very big. We can live without it if we are forced to but we would be deprived of many things and activities that we take for granted in this country. Freedom can also mean many different things to everyone. Everyone has their own opinion on the topic, some feeling more strongly about it than others. One thing that comes to my mind when talking about freedom is having the ability to speak my mind without restraint.…
