Being known as the oldest jobs in the world, people have now considered it to be an occupation, while others believe it to be demeaning towards women. Prostitution does not favor or categorize race, color, gender or age. In this profession ethnicity or life experiences are not ignored. Prostitution has already existed all around the world and is not limited to any particular place; this can be spotted at nightclubs, during the day at your own home, having sexual activity with someone for a profit. Now that there are some parts of the United States that have already legalized prostitution in the last year, the real question is how long has prostitution business been active? Mesopotamia, around the third millennium B.C, the Sumerians worshipped a goddess name Ishtar. Ishtar was known as the goddess of love and war, but ever morning she born anew as a maiden and only became a “whore” every evening. With Mesopotamia having religious practice to the prostitution trade, women in Ishtar’s services would give help to the men that offered money to her temples with their “sacred powers of their bodies.” Women were able to enjoy such religious position and temples had become the knowledge of birth, birth control and sexuality. The practice was being done in Ancient Egypt and trades continued through the Hellenic and Roman periods.
