There are many controversial topics in today’s world, but one topic at the very top of this list is the legalization of marijuana. The main argument is whether or not marijuana should be legalized for medical purposes. Many states have legalized medical marijuana already. For example Washington and Colorado legalized the drug. A lot of people use marijuana illegally which gives a negative connotation about the effects of the drug. The age of people using the drug starts with teens and goes all the way up into adulthood. As a result, it is known as a harmful drug. However, that does not stop people from using the drug. Even though, it is seen as harmful many people want to see it legalized. This is what causes it to be a very debatable topic. In order to have an argument for the legalization of marijuana there must first be an argument presented and a common ground must be reached. For example, medical marijuana has been used to help with pain that is caused by some medical conditions. “Now, a wide-ranging survey in California finds that medical marijuana patients agree: 92 percent said that medical marijuana alleviated symptoms of their serious medical conditions, including chronic pain, arthritis, migraine, and cancer”(Hadaway). People who are really sick and need medical marijuana as a treatment option should not have to live in agony because of the lack medical availability. To prevent a person that is suffering from serious illnesses, for example, aids and glaucoma the right to receive the appropriate treatments needed in order for them to get better is a complete disgrace. However , on the other hand, medical marijuana should be an accredited medical option for anyone who is in need of a serious pain reliever. Medical marijuana should only be provided to those who have serious life threatening
