Legalization of Marijuana
One of the thigs that has held constant in the news for years and years is whether or not marijuana should be legalized. Marijuana is currently legal in some forms in just under half of our states. While only a few of those states allow marijuana to be used as a recreational drug, some of them do. Marijuana tends to have a bad connotation to it, similar to almost all drugs. People see it as a way to escape reality and also be rebellious. Due to that perception, those people think it should be illegal. They also think that legalizing it would be much too hard to control and regulate and also make for too large of changes in the economy. They, too, believe it can take over many users’ lives and is nothing but bad for the body. Lastly, people think marijuana should be illegal because you can get addicted to it and cause yourself and your health to go downhill. I believe not all of their arguments are true, and also that even if they were, the pros to legalization of marijuana would be much greater. The pros, such as: many states have already bought into it; it can help cancer patients as well as other ill patients; people agree with it; users cannot get addicted to it; it brings in more revenue to the economy; it creates jobs; it keeps people out of jail; and no long-term effects, are just easier to agree with and argue with. I believe if people had a better understanding of marijuana and had fewer misconceptions about it then it would already be legal throughout the United States and if it were not, then more people would be arguing for it to be legal just like I
