Marijuana does not have any life-threatening side effects like a lot of medications, but if you 're preference is not with the medicinal purposes of marijuana then there will be other medications available for pain relief. The Institution of Medicine reported “marijuana can provide superior relief to patients who suffer those symptoms because of certain illnesses and disabilities, metastatic cancer, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, and epilepsy, and those who suffer the same symptoms as side effects from the aggressive treatments for such conditions” (ProCon.org). Medication for people who have those diseases are very expensive. Medicinal uses for marijuana could cut the medical costs by a lot depending on how much medication they’re taking. The IOM also stated that, “The profile of cannabinoid drug effects suggests that they are promising for treating wasting syndrome in AIDS patients. Nausea, appetite loss, pain, and anxiety are all afflictions of wasting, and all can be mitigated by marijuana” (ProCon.org). There are so many options for the use of marijuana in the medicinal purpose, that are way more cost efficient than a lot of other medications for diseases such as cancer and AIDS. But, the use of medicinal purposes for marijuana are not only limited with these severe patients. Any type of disease has the potential to be helped by medicinal marijuana. Making marijuana legal could help so many different diseases and conditions. It could help people suffering from other drug addictions by trying to calm them down and help with the withdrawal.
