Arguments Against LGBT Rights

The term ‘LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community” is used to describe the community of people with varied sexualities, romantic orientations, and gender identities across the world that differ from society’s version of “normal”. While the legalization of marriage between same-sex individuals being declared a constitutional right by the Supreme Court is a definite step in the right direction, America is still a long way from fully recognizing the LGBT community. The LGBT community is often looked down upon in the eyes of society and the law, which often endangers the individuals that identify as a part of this community. They claim that these children grow up to be LGBT themselves more often, and that children without biological fathers may grow up to be more sexually promiscuous. A study run by the University of Texas at Austin disputes this, however, and proves that children who grow up under the care of same sex couples suffer no more disadvantages than those who grow up under the care of a married couple of a biologically male parent and a biologically female parent (Sprigg). The only way being raised by a same-sex couple negatively influences a child is if the family faces discrimination because of their same-sex parents, i.e. if the family is denied a place to live, or if the family is refused to be served at a restaurant because of their orientation. Passing laws to protect these parents from discrimination would help solve this problem, and help make the family, kids included, more
