Let us build a wall! All Muslims are terrorist! Illegal immigrants are stealing our jobs! These are all statements that have been circulating around the media. Why such negativity towards Illegal immigrants? What does it really even mean to be an illegal immigrant? In the United States when speaking about Illegal immigration it is usual that the first groups to come up as a discussion are Mexicans. The truth is that Mexicans are not the only illegal immigrants; the United State is built with all types of illegal immigrants from different cultures of people who have migrated from different part of the world. Now we are more diverse than before with other groups of immigrants such as South American, Asians, and Middle Easterns. Even though we are the most diverse country in the world, we are also the most unwelcomed toward immigrants. The reason why is because unfortunately some events occurred in the past where the U.S has been attacked by terror groups that in fact were not even illegal immigrants. A great example is the 19 Highjakers of the attack on 9/11 who had a tourist, business, or student visa, meaning that they were here legally. The chances that an illegal immigrants perpetuate an attack on the American soil are lesser than a legal immigrant. According to the Cato institute, in a 41 year period an American suffering in “an attack committed by an illegal immigrant is an astronomical 1 in 10.9 billion per year” while “the chance of being murdered by a tourist on a B visa, the most common tourist visa, is 1 in 3.9 million per year”. The difference here is by billions and millions, it is significant. This in fact shows that Illegal immigrants do not immigrate to the U.S to attack; instead they come to the U.S looking for a better opportunity. Many people make comments as of why can illegal immigrants just come in legally. It not as easy as it sounds to obtain a visa and come to U.S legally because of lack of education and money. It is brought down to these three different routes to obtain a visa which is employment, family reunification, or humanitarian protection. It sound easy but According to the American Immigration Council, “each of these possibilities is highly regulated and subject to numerical limitations and eligibility requirements”. This means that most of the people who come in illegally do not qualify the requirements. This leaves them with no other alternative that to take the risk of crossing illegally; leaving their homes, families and countries to escape harsh violence, poverty, and in some cases their
