Higher Learning: The Poor Man’s Gain
Higher education is expensive. That is something most people can agree on. While researching college tuition rates and expenses, it is easy to see that most of them cost upwards or the same as the average cost of a brand new car, and that is just for in-state students, out of state students can cost triple that amount. That is why the first four years of College should be free for first time students, this could benefit the economy in the long run, and it would be world changing.
Bachelor’s degrees from four year colleges should be free to all people with a high school diploma or GED for various reasons such as: cost, want, and need. The cost of college affects everyone; student loan debt is crippling the United States it currently sits at 1.2 trillion and rising this debt is affecting forty million people across the United States and is the only consumer debt that is not showing a decrease. (USA Today) If a program is approved for free schooling for undergrad it could hinder student loan debt from growing tremendously. This would affect the taxpayer, but would benefit the United States more overall due to jobs being filled and created; and more money being pumped back into the economy because student debt wouldn’t be a worry and less people would …show more content…
If a basic 4 year degree is made available to everyone, more people may choose to pursue a career which could help families everywhere, and if people are making more money, it helps the economy and decreases the national debt in a matter of years. Higher numbers of people with a higher education could spark a global change especially considering that the United States is a powerhouse we could see unimaginable change if even the poorest man and woman could receive an education and possibly do better for themselves.
