There is an issue growing in popularity that debates whether universal healthcare should be practiced in the United States. Many editorials have expressed their opinions using argumentations, counterarguments, and rhetorical appeals. They also use evidence to support their claims and reasons to why they are of the opinion that universal healthcare should be practiced or banned. As each editorial is commencing, the editorial banning universal healthcare is more effective.…
One of the most debatable topics that is challenged today is the issue of healthcare. Although the United States has been trying to provide healthcare for all, the United States fails to supply all of its citizens for insurable healthcare compared to other countries. Compared to the illusion of majority citizens having health insurance, in reality 43% of low income Americans went without medical care due to cost, compared to the range of 8% in Britain and 31% in Switzerland in 2016 (Fox). Today, there are 28.4 million people in the United States who are under the age of 65 that are uninsured (Health Insurance Coverage). Workers who can not afford health care live day by day making enough money to support their family and can not afford a day…
Along with a detailed history of insurance and political background on how has the health care system changed over the course of a few years, the book presents case studies that shows the financial strain and medical hardships caused by the declining health care system and why it is in a desperate need to reform. Some Americans cannot afford the medicine they need or cannot afford to pay the doctors for any medical help. “Hospitals try to keep out the uninsured because treating those patients will just divert hospital resources away from paying customers” (219). Some companies cannot provide insurance as an incentive with employment like previously either.…
In 2010, The Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, was implemented across the United States to address the foremost issues in today’s Healthcare. These problems include lack of accessibility to quality healthcare, growing cost of care, and quality of care. While the affordable care act addresses concern of access to care for the underprivileged, it creates other new complications regarding cost and quality. Obamacare has succeeded in making care more accessible and now millions of Americans are now newly insured under government subsidized healthcare exchanges. However, the cost of care for those previously insured from either their employer or privately has increased dramatically.…
“If you don 't have liberty and self-determination, you got nothing. That 's what this country 's built on and this is the ultimate self-determination to determine when and how you 're gonna die when you 're suffering”- Jack Kevorkian (“People”). Jack Kevorkian, or infamously known as Dr. Death, was a practicing physician and convicted murderer whom brought a spotlight to the nationwide conversation on the right to die movement (“Prescription”). But, what is the right to die movement? The right to die movement is an advocacy movement that stresses the belief in the natural or constitutional right to end one’s life when they seem fit, especially in the case of a terminal illness.…
The first thing to take into account is the fact that healthcare accounts for approximately 6% of the U.S. economy. The Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, or other unsavory names is actually in my mind making the medical field and the availability of care for patients more difficult. Regardless of its benefits to some patients, the Obamacare is making things much more difficult for doctors, nurses and anyone in medicine. It has done nothing but increase paperwork and costs, and has done nothing to increase the quality of care.…
There is little relating to this reform of our health care system that is not funded by the working class. Changes in health care costs will be disguised as mandates and higher premiums to be paid by the taxpayers, despite the promises made by our nation. The plans will cost more, for less coverage. Insurance plans will change, and specific doctors may not be available due to these changes. This leads to falling quality of care for insured Americans, and exorbitant medical bills, should you need in depth care.…
The Affordable Care Act, or Obama Care, is a law signed and passed in 2010 by President Barack Obama. It was passed because it is supposed to help with the cost, accessibility, and overall quality of health care insurance like Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP, etc. However, anyone who doesn't have insurance by 2014 will have to pay a fee and are all but being told that they have to have to choose from a private insurance with higher prices. ("ObamaCare Explained: An Explanation of ObamaCare") Initially, the Affordable Care Act was meant to help with the cost of insurance.…
In any country people are going to have different opinions on how things are run. In America, since our country is one where you are free to voice your opinion, it seems that the disagreements never stop. Particularly for one thing: our nation's healthcare. Barack Obama, our forty fourth president proposed a new health care act, The Affordable Care Act or “Obamacare” shortly after he became elected. An act that congress said they will read after they pass it, an act that some say was passed illegally.…
In a country of democracy, citizens have the rights to choose what is best for themselves. However, the governments often disregard or repulse those rights. For instance, in 2010, President Barack Obama signed an Act called ACA, which also known as the Obamacare in order to make sure all citizens have a health insurance coverage. Although at that time for some people it seemed to be a great idea, it did not balance on both sides because it did not seem to be fair for others. As Michael Hart a professor at Broward Community College once said, “ It is unconstitutional for President Barack Obama to take millions of dollars from Medicare to put on his health care and charging others who choose not to have a health insurance hundreds of dollars” (Hart).…
Health care reform is one of the most controversial topics in the United States because so many people in the country cannot afford health care or may not have the right amount of coverage for certain conditions. The health care system is flawed in that it produces financial and political displeasure in Americans because of expensive plans and rejection of Medicaid expansion to politically break the Affordable Care Act (“ObamaCare”). Health care reform would be a positive change in this country because it will improve the issues of unreliable health insurance plans, the absence of healthcare awareness educators, and expensive healthcare for seniors. By the year 2015, it will be mandatory that all citizens of the United States have health insurance…
The young couple , Jon and Maria , are running behind on the house bills for paying for medical bills because of their 10 year old son having a leg injury . Bills started to pile up left and right , collecting dust and have “urgent” on top of them in large font . On Sunday evening , they go a knock on the door from the sheriff . “You are being evicted because of failure to pay the rent” the sheriff said. “ NO PLEASE !!!…
“An estimate done by the Census Bureau’s, said that thirty-three million Americans lacked health insurance in 2014 reflects a significant and welcome drop from the forty-two million it reported as uninsured in 2013,” said Dr. Robert Zarr, president of Physicians for a National Health Program, today (More Americans gain health coverage, but many can’t afford to use it: doctors group). In this time of rising health care costs, a great amount of Americans experience troubles or difficulties paying for needed health care services. With the costs that are expected to continue rising, changes happening to private insurance plans and public…
Healthcare should be free because some people can not pay for a visit. Someone can be really ill and need a trip to the doctors but it is expensive to pay for it. There are times i’ve seen where adults and/or children have been in car accidents and those people result in being hurt. It is not those people’s fault that someone else caused an accident and so therefore there should be healthcare for those type of people who aren’t really the cause of an injury. If people have and can afford health care then those people have a better chance to be living their lives healthier knowing that they get checked up and there is really nothing to worry about.…
The welfare program in the United States is abused by many Americans. Citizens in the program get their sense of responsibility muted causing dependency on the government. The government does not give its users a limit of how many people they will provide for, causing them to have bigger families in return for more money. There is a misuse of government grants and aids, and many abuse the money received. Welfare is intended to be an aid for the citizens who have an actual need for it while they become financially stable.…
