Many of the Presidents in America will not alter the laws because of the pervasive gun culture that stems from its colonial history. They also come from the Second Amendment that states, “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the surety of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringing.” Even though it is written in the declaration of independence, it is not an unlimited right to own firearms. Even in its colonial stages, there was evidence that there was gun control. A study in 2013 showed that “assault weapons bans did not alter the effect of murder rates at the state level” and “states with restrictions on the carrying of concealed weapons had higher gun-related murders.” This study shows that evidence because even with the gun ban people still own the guns. This ban only stopped the sales of assault weapons. Most people still carry concealed weapons no matter what laws or bans are placed. They do this because they do not feel safe in their environment.
