Why Gun Control Should Be Enforced

With respect to the American education system, the enactment of programs to identify the beginning signs of a mentally disturbed individual or a potential mass shooter is necessary. According to Salem police officer Sean Cooper, “The introduction of both mental health courses for students of all ages and more in depth evacuation and lockdown procedures in schools will further protect America’s youth.” Similarly, Officer Cooper also endorsed the bulletproofing, additions in security to public institutions, and advancements in pursuing legislation for background checks and purchasing restrictions. When in reality gun control has little to no effect upon the rights of American citizens who legally obtained their guns. The term gun rights reform purely refers to the enforcement of laws, regulations, and safety protocol that are already in place, just lack proper structure. And more importantly the enactment of further legislation and technology to deny individuals who are mentally ill or criminals from obtaining any weapons legally through the faulty system. In no way is the gun control movement dedicated to the removal of legal guns, but rather the prevention of more casualties and mass shootings. Whether you are in favor of gun rights or gun control, it is obvious from the abundance of mass shootings that have continued to become more common at a national level that America needs a paradigm shift in the way guns are viewed. Despite withholding opposite views on the issue, each side does not want to continue to fear for their child’s life every time they send him or her to school nor wake up to another news channel blaring sirens and listing names of victims.
