Throughout the 21 century, guns have persisted in society causing many unnecessary fatalities, and now it is time for change. Many U.S officials have requested to restrict people buying guns, but others, such as the congress, disagree. A bountiful of congressmen do not support gun control laws because they feel it is a violation of the constitution and the 2nd amendment, which gives Americans the right to bear arms. Recently, this has been a huge topic of controversy in the presidential debates. Gun control laws are as simple as improving the background checks conducted by the FBI. Many mass shootings occur because someone either mentally ill or a terrorist has a gun. Not selling guns to this specific group of people will prevent many of these mass shootings. For example, the Virginia Tech shooting could have been prevented, if gun control laws were in effect. The shooter had a mental illness that was unknown by all, other than his parents. If a thorough background check was conducted by the FBI this tragic event could have avoided. Increasing background checks could possibly decrease the amount of mass shootings that occur in the U.S. Most shootings occur because mentally ill people obtain these weapons of mass murder. Imposing gun control laws will help us reduce the selling of guns to the mentally ill people. Most shooting in the U.S are very avoidable but since mentally ill people obtain these guns the shootings occur. Also lately due to ISIS the amount of terrorist attacks have increased, endangering our national security. Gun sale has to be regulated and restricted because ISIS is increasing the amount of attacks nationally and globally.
