This transgenic (meaning it has genes from another living source) organism then squires a specific trait to artificially enhance it. Genetically modified organisms can range from any plant or animal. Some of the most common GMO foods are: corn, sugar beets, soy, squash, zucchini, canola, milk (from cows), etc. Many of the foods that most people consume have been genetically modified. There is a lot of controversy on the topic of GMO’s. Some argue that they are good, while others argue that there are more dangers and negatives to GMOs than positives. Genetically modified foods shouldn’t be allowed or at least labeled because there may be some health risks associated with genetically modified foods, they can hurt the environment, and there’s not enough research done on …show more content…
GMO’s may be an easier and more efficient way of growing/producing food, although the negatives and the risks outweigh the positives. There could possibly be some unknown health risks from consuming genetically modified food. Studies have shown that there could be some serious health issues caused by genetically modified foods. GMO’s can also damage the environment. The pesticides that many genetically modified crops give off is very toxic and are targeting important organisms that are vital to plant life. Genetically modified organisms are turned from natural to unnatural for no valid reason. No matter what life form, it’s not right to change it into something it wasn’t before. There’s no definite research that says that GMO’s are safe for both the environment and consumers. There could be some dangerous effects, but food providers don’t seem to realize how significant this issue is. There needs to be more long term research on GMO’s so that there will someday be a definite answer about genetically modified organisms and how they can impact the world and those who inhabit this Earth. With that said, labels must be on every genetically modified food product on the market. People have an undeniable right of being able to choose what they put into
