Beyoncé Knowles once said, “We have to teach our boys the rules of equality and respect, so that as they grow up, gender equality becomes a natural way of life. And we have to teach our girls that they can reach as high as humanly possible.” In our current society, young boys have been raised to believe that because they are male, they are superior to women. Their heads are filled with sexist beliefs that take years to change. As a result, young women’s heads are poisoned with the idea that because they are female, they will never be able to achieve as high as their male peers. For thousands of years, women have had to suffer through the pains of inequality. On August 26, 1920 the 19th Amendment was passed and women were given the right to vote (“The Fight for Women’s Suffrage”). However, nearly 100 years later women are still fighting to be equal to men. America is one of the only developed countries to not …show more content…
It may not seem like that big of a deal, but why should women be paid any less than men? Women can do the job just as well as their male coworkers, but are often underestimated simply for being female. In many places, women make up over half the work force, and in some families they are the main source of income. If things continue to change as slow as they are now, it could take almost 40 years for women to be paid the same amount as men. We live in a very developed culture with freedom for nearly all people, but women are still not paid as they should be. In the work force, it also seems as if women are not given the same opportunities as their male coworkers. More often than not, a man will be given the job of higher power over a woman. Many would believe that women are not capable of holding a higher position because it is believed that their judgement might be clouded by “hormones”. Women are more than capable of being a higher
