Most children are not able to report the abuse, or they are afraid that reporting the abuse would bring even worse consequences. There are different kinds of child abuse, includes sibling rivalry, is when a child is bullied by their siblings; parents exposing children to sibling rivalry is also a kind of abuse; other parent abuse, which includes physical abuse, sexual abuse and psychological/emotional abuse; children witnessing abuse, is when children watch one parent abusing another, this could cause children grow up to be distrusting, afraid of marriage or commitment; and most common child abuse is neglect, such as abandonment, fail to provide physical care and emotional care, neglect could sometimes cause children’s death. Some children are too young to speak about their abuse, some are frightened, and when the brave children do tell adults that they are abused at home, they are often blamed and distrusted, adults may think those children are just lying to seek attention from their parents. And many people think child abusing is a private issue, they could just solve the problem within their family. Recently, number of elder people being violent abused by family members are on the rise, according to the textbook, since 2012, this number has increased by 14%. Elder females are more likely to be abused by family members than elder male; and different societies also treat elder people differently, in China and Middle East and Aboriginal groups, older age means higher social status, older people are more respected there; but in North America, older people are marginalized because of their lack of wealth, power, mobility, and physical perfection, so we can understand that abusing elder people in China, Middle East and aboriginal groups are more likely to be criticized than in North America.
