Over the last 50 years the use of essential oils has become more popular in my house and all around the world, but do they really work? These oils that are pulled from plants are said to have therapeutic properties; dab some lavender and melaleuca oils on your ear and your earache will surely go away! Many people are skeptical of the healing properties within these glass bottles while others use them everyday for everything. So do these oils really have therapeutic properties? Everyone has a different reaction to medications so it should be expected with essential oils as well. Just recently my dad was diagnosed with pneumonia so I called my friend, Melissa, who sells doTERRA essential oils and asked her what we could do to help make his recovery faster. That night we diffused a blend called “Breathe” which is made up of many oils such as: eucalyptus, laurel leaf, peppermint, melaleuca, lemon, and ravensara. Along with diffusing “Breathe”, he was told to put some thyme oil on his big toe and rub a protective blend called “On Guard” on his feet. “On Guard” is a blend of wild orange, clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary oils and is supposed to support healthy immune systems and protect against environmental and seasonal threats. That night he slept so well that my mom kept waking up because he wasn’t snoring like he usually does. He woke up the next day feeling refreshed, energized and healthy. Since he had such a great experience with the oils my mom decided that we should buy some of our own and see if we could use more essential oils and less over the counter drugs. Later on my mom and I both came down with what we thought was pneumonia so we tried the oils as well. Diffusing “Breathe” didn’t help my mom like it helped my dad and it didn’t help me either until I was told to add some lemon oil. With a better outcome adding the lemon oil, I was then given a cleansing blend to diffuse called “Purify” which is made up of lime, lemon, pine, citronella, melaleuca, and cilantro oils. Melissa told us that if we didn’t have any luck with Breathe then I didn’t have a bacterial infection like my dad. I had an awesome experience with “Purify” and have noticed a decrease in my seasonal allergies as well. My mom and I ended up having a viral infection, which explains why the Breathe blend didn’t help us like it helped my dad. Purify cleanses
