When I was in elementary and middle school everyone told me that Drugs are bad for you. They would also talk about the destructive effects of drugs and how it could affect your mind, body, and soul. Even today I am still told not to do drugs. But as I began to get older and see numerous people starting to do drugs regardless of what they were told by an authority figure. They would still use the drug even though it is illegal. I could never understand why people would go against the law even if it jeopardize their lives. The drug I am talking about is Marijuana, it is the dried leaves and flowers of the hemp plant that are smoked as a drug. When a person consume a large amount of marijuana it will not cause death but if you consume a large amount of alcohol it will. If a person face a withdrawal form alcohol it can cause a death, but if you have a withdrawal from marijuana it will not. Alcohol has a greater link to a birth defect when a pregnant women use it, but there have not been any effect proven when a pregnant women smokes pot. According to the U.S Center for Disease Control, marijuana is one of the safest therapeutically active food in its natural form to men. Alcohol would be illegal and crack-cocaine would be legal, since alcohol use trumps all other drugs with respect to its contribution to violent crimes and behaviors. Alcohol, unlike marijuana has a long wide spread history of use the Western culture. Alcohol contributes to the likelihood of sexual assault and domestic violence than marijuana. About 3 million violent crimes occur each and every year in which victims perceived the offender to be drinking at the time of the offense.
