Many dogs need to release the energy that increases throughout the day and giving them an outlet will make them too tired to destroy owners’ belongings. In addition to the obstacles, the parks can include other amenities such as dog run lanes, where owners can play with their dog free from anxiety and away from other dogs (APDT, 2016). In larger and more developed dog parks, amenities can include special events, educational opportunities, seminars, training classes, and some even offer “destination places for dogs and their owners” (Avrasin, 2004). Some parks can offer special days such as birthday parties, reunions, or any type of celebration event with the dogs as the “star” of the party. A dog park would provide a safe environment for exercise and play in fenced-in areas for dogs only, rather than in open areas such as a public park. Many public parks allow for dogs to go to but they need to be leashed as required in the State of Ohio. Therefore, the thoughts behind the development of a dog park allows for a dog to run around and play off-leash in an enclosed area (King, 2004). Common sense seems to dictate that going to a dog park allows for dogs to interact with other dogs as well as dogs connecting with people besides the owners. This manner benefits the dogs’ temperament and assists with the capability of tolerance to other dogs and people. In addition, APDT acknowledges that, in general, most dogs are much “happier, friendlier”, and “less fearful” than those that were not socialized as puppies (2016). As for people, the dog park allows for the owners to gather and share ideas about dog training experiences and offer some informative occasions for dog owners to learn about different ways to train their dogs to be well-behaved (APDT, 2016). And lastly, people become acquainted with their neighbors and other people in the community while at the dog park. This advantage allows people to form new friendships, share and exchange ideas, and maintain harmony in the community.
