Daylight Saving Time-- created as a way to conserve daylight and save energy is a practice that dates back to the early 1900s. Most countries have adapted to the practice of turning the clocks ahead one hour in the spring, and then turning them back an hour in the fall. Yet, there’s a lack of knowledge of how and why Daylight Saving Time came about, which has caused a lot of debate over whether it should end once and for all. Daylight Saving Time should be abolished as it has no purpose and causes a great deal of confusion and aggravation, as well as having negative effects on our health.
Daylight Saving Time (DST) has sparked controversy since Benjamin Franklin first proposed the idea at the beginning of 20th century (About Daylight...).

Many people have this idea in their minds that DST somehow helps farmers, but in reality, DST actually negatively affects most farmers. Farmers have been against the system since it was first enacted because it disrupts their daily routine (Does DST...). Farmers work by the sun, not the clocks, so by setting the clocks forward an hour they have to wait an extra hour for the dew to evaporate to harvest hay. It also makes milking cows more difficult as cows are used to being milked at a certain time, and the change in time can affect both the cow and the milk. But if DST was not supported by farmers (and that’s why many believe we still use it) then is there a real reason to still keep it …show more content…
Many people say they enjoy that extra hour of sleep they get in the fall, but that extra hour could be causing major health problems. Light dictates when we feel tired as well as regulates hunger and hormone production (Kramer). The changes that comes out of nowhere (at least to our bodies) causes a lot of confusion and makes it more difficult to get up in the morning before the sun rises. In the fall when we gain an hour of sleep our bodies once again have to adjust to going to sleep at an earlier time (because we gain an hour while we’re sleeping) but still get up at the same time in the morning. Messing with your internal body clock has inverse effects on your quality of sleep, which could lead to sleep deprivation (The History...). Sleep deprivation can lead to a lot of issues such as daytime fatigue, decreased memory, increased risk of heart attack or heart disease as well as increased risk of getting in a car crash. Studies have shown that DST is linked to an increase of automobile accidents in the days following the start of DST, mainly due to tired drivers. You may think that losing or gaining just one hour couldn 't possibly affect you this much but it can, and it

Have you ever wondered why the U.S does daylight savings time and the rest of the world doesn’t? The U.S has been using daylight savings time for years while other countries have stopped after WW2. In the articles“Pros & Cons: Daylight Savings time” by Proscons.org and the article “The Curious and Contentious Story of Daylight Saving Time” by David Prerau they state that daylight savings is both good and bad. Although some argue that the U.S should eliminate daylight savings, I believe that daylight savings should remain because of the reduced exposure to artificial light and the decreased risk of car accidents involving children in the afternoon.…

The times will affect adults that go to work early in the morning because most parents have to leave early for work and that will mean they will get held up in horrific traffic. The car parks at school would be horrendous and that will end up with angry parents and some terrible car accidents. Most parents that get up early and leave for work know how bad the area is with the traffic. Parents don’t want to also be more behind with the time waiting for school kids get to school. At the Selective boys’ school Melbourne High, Principle Jeremy Ludowyke has informed the Herald Sun by changing the school start times is in fact a good thing as so it would deliver many benefits. In America, around about 80 schools have introduced the later school start times since the year of…

Have you ever been late to school because you slept in. Well I have done that because I did not go to bed at the right time. Mostly everyone has a time to be in bed, because of school in the morning and some kids don’t follow that rule which the students should. The students should follow that rule because they have school in the morning and they have to be there early. I believe that the time of school should stay the same because it would cost more money, you wouldn't have problems if you went to bed earlier, and it would disrupt after-school activities if we went later.…

On the other hand schools should not push back a later time for school. If they were to then is would also disturb the buses because in Arundel the bus schedule was that high school would be dropped of and then middle school and then elementary as you can see there is no room for schools to be pushed back. Also it would have to spend additional money on buses like 8 million dollars. In addition students should not go to bed so later then they would not have a problem with waking up early and would get the recommended hours of sleep.…

Last resource I found that parents who jump into harsh conclusion when asking about changing the schedule. Parents believed that if the clock and schedule changed it will impact their own personal schedules. They can also worry about the students getting out of school too late and maybe walking alone in the dark and sport practices which take up time as well. I found these concerns reasonable however I believed the school or district should do something about the academic school clock and maybe more things would improve…

Recent studies show that students who wake up at times different than their “natural sleep clocks” have an easier time adjusting to the times they’ll have to wake up at when they start to work. When students don’t go directly to college they go into the workforce, meaning they will need to be awake and prepared at a different time. Schools should not start or end later to accommodate student’s “natural sleep clocks” due to the fact that before and after school some students need to take care of younger siblings as well as other students who may go to work.…

Students and parents across the world have different opinions about what the appropriate time for the school day to start is. School start times vary widely across the nation, some schools start early to save money and at the same time reduce transportation costs. Other schools have a late start because they think it makes students perform better academically. The school day starting time is an issue that has become very controversial, especially in the last couple of years since many research has been performed. Like every other issue, people find something wrong with the problem and the plan to solve it. I believe the school day should start later because studies have shown that it affects the academic performance of students, students and some young teachers don't get enough sleep, and the lack of sleep affects learning and performing to the best of their ability.…

High school students are expected to sit through 7 hours of instruction, complete 2-4 hours of homework, have a social life, be active in their family, and get the recommended 8-10 hours of sleep all in one day. Now with studies showing teenagers experience a change in their internal clocks, there has to be some adjustment made. Students are having a harder time waking up and falling asleep early enough to be prepared for school. To help students cope with this change in their internal clocks; high schools should begin later, and end later in the day. Hearing an alarm clock go off at 6:30 in the morning is an awful and discouraging sound. Waking up before the sun has risen only to go sit in a plastic chair to learn information completely irrelevant to your intended future career is not an…
