First, a major issue to spend on, “The deteriorating condition of the services ships and aircraft is merely a symptom of larger challenges facing the Coast guard.” (Bowen, W. Charles, 2010) This is a large challenge that the Coast Guard faces because it creates future …show more content…
Technology is constantly changing and updating. It is also the fastest and most expensive system in our century today. Technology can help you keep track of progress on the Coast, and it makes distance learning easier than ever. You can access technology at any time, anywhere you go and the systems are almost always accurate. However, for the U.S Coast Guard in a few recent years technology was not very successful because of the low budget. In 2007 the U.S Coast Guard recovered the Deep water acquisition program. These programs were from a private integrated Coast Guard System. However, the U.S Coast Guard did not have compatible and up to date technology systems to work for the private integrated system they had recovered. They also were told they did not have enough personnel to operate the system successfully. “by the time it reviews the documents, the companies may have moved ahead with their plans, leaving the agency to accept the work or try to change it at additional cost.” (Cummings, Elijah …show more content…
The U.S Coast Guard (USCG) fell short in staff personnel for key homeland security missions. In 2008, the USCG did not meet their personal requirements for escorting tankers. Therefore, they could not complete the task of carrying liquefied natural gas or crude oil into the United States ports. “Al Qaeda has indicated in the past that LNG tankers are a potential target, and a May 2005 report by Good Harbor Consulting, which evaluated a hypothetical terrorist attack against LNG tankers and infrastructure in a U.S. port, found that “there appears to be a high risk that catastrophic damage could occur if a large breach were made in the urban LNG facility’s tank, if three of five containers aboard the LNG tanker were breached, or if an a attack occurred involving both the facility and the tanker during unloading.” (Cunnings, Elijah 2010) This means without the proper funding the USCG cannot properly complete these security missions and now they have created and danger and threat towards
