Argumentative Essay On Clowns

Even before (T) Dan said anything, all Kit could think about was the clowns. The clowns… the creepy clowns with their painted on big smiles that give Kit nightmares. Here he was standing in front of the Barlows Great North American Circus poster with his best friend Dan, and all Kit can think about is the scary clowns.

Kit and Dan are life-long friends, in fact they share the same birthday, October 31. They are 13 years old, but Kit is thirteen minutes older than Dan. Kit always likes to tease Dan about being the “older one!”

The boys like all the same things, and in their small town of Smyrna the boys spend their days playing baseball, riding bikes, and fishing on the Smyrna Creek that runs through the town.

Look at all the animals. We can see lions, elephants, tigers and leopards! We’ve never seen any of those creatures except on the internet!”

Kit gulped and said, “I would love to see all the animals, especially the lions, but I think my parents won’t let me go on a school night.” Kit hopes Dan won’t get suspicious about the real reason he didn’t want to go to the circus.

Dan didn’t let it go though. Next (T) he said, “Look at this! There will be acrobats, bare-backed riders and trapeze artists! You know you want to see the tight rope walkers! I wonder if they’ll have a net under

What did you do that for?” Dan said as he looks at Kit, shaking the ice off his foot. “I’m not feeling well all of a sudden. I think I need to go home…now!” Kit mumbles (V) with a half scared-half sickly look on his face. He then bolts (V) out of his seat. But Dan grabs his arm and pulls him back to his seat pleading (V), “What’s up? I can tell some-thing is not quite right.”

Kit wouldn’t look at Dan. He just covered his face with his hands and says shamefully, “I’m terrified of clowns! Their white painted faces with those big fake smiles in bright red frighten the daylights out of me! They really scare me ever since I visited my cousin, Mi-chael, in Daytona. He hid in his closet until I was sound asleep. Then he stood over my bed and growled (V) my name in a creepy voice. I woke up to see this scary clown with a big red smile and sharp pointy teeth.”

“I screamed so loud that everyone came running in to the room to find me terrified and Michael laughing obnoxiously. Ever since that time I’ve been deathly afraid of all clowns.” Kit said quietly, barely above a whisper.

Dan reaches over and pats Kit on the back and reassures Kit by saying, “Oh Michael has always been such a jerk! Don't let him ruin the circus for you. It will be fine. I’m here…just watch the

Dillard uses an image of a clown to state ideas that will become notable later in the essay. In her hotel room outside Yakima, Dillard sees a twisted painting of a clown made of vegetables, in which she describes. Dillard states, “I assume, a great many things I wanted to remember—but I have not forgotten that clown painting or its lunatic setting in the old hotel” (97). This scene anticipates the effect the eclipse will have. The clown is made up of vegetables; it is not what it sounds to be.…

In the article “A Suicide at Twelve: ‘Why, Steve?” of Richard E. Meyer, the author narrates a whole life of a young boy whose name is Steve Dailey. Through the article, we could see the whole life of Steve from the day he was born to the day he chose a rope and bough to end his life although nobody, who lived around him, understood the reason why he had to kill himself. Therefore, the author still keeps a question “Why, Steve?” for the article. “Steve Dailey was born on July 30, 1961, in the Cincinnati suburb of Clifton.”…

It had been a few weeks since your parents died in a tragic plane crash, though you didn’t feel all that sad. Of course, you were slightly upset, but it wasn’t that bad. Your parents had never really built an emotional bond with you. They were more like dictators, they forced you to be the three P’s: posh, proper, and polite. When you wanted to play outside with the other kids, they shook their head in distaste, your mother telling you that’s not what ladies do.…
