Any technology that reduces the environmental impact of burning coal falls under the clean coal technologies umbrella (Halber, 2008, para. 1). The two most common categories of these technologies deal with the removal and storage, most commonly in subterrestrial caverns, of carbon dioxide before or after the burning of coal or the removal of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, the cause of acid …show more content…
At every major revolution in technology, our nation has blazed the trail, propelling us to the status of the only superpower on the earth. We are on the cusp of yet another of these revolutions. This time the technological revolution will move us from the unstainable use of fossil fuels to better means of energy production. Therefore, my recommendation to the Trump administration is that they enact policies that encourage American scientists and inventors to be at the forefront of this new frontier. For the nation that leads in this area of technological development will be the nation that prospers most from it. While the coal industry is extremely influential in the politics of the United States, I would urge the Trump administration to rise above politics and pursue the elimination of coal from the nation’s energy supply chain in favor of renewable energy sources. Furthermore, it has been shown that the use of fossil fuels is causing damage to our planet. At the beginning of time God gave humanity the responsibility of ruling over the earth, “And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’” (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version, 2008, Gen 1:28). From God’s example, we know that a good ruler considers the wellbeing of the thing which they have been placed over. Therefore, if we find that we are damaging the thing with which God has entrusted us, we must take steps to correct our actions.
I believe that other methods of energy production should be increased due to the fact that clean coal is not as practical as these other methods. Despite the dispute about the validity of clean coal, one thing is certain, it is in the United States’ interests to invest in other technologies in order to maintain its status of innovation and leadership within
