Argumentative Essay On Civil Rights

There are soldiers everywhere holding rifles and helmets as if they are in the middle of a training area. Their presence right off the bat sets the tone of the situation. This is no joking matter and they mean business. Right in the center of the image you can see a man in the middle of about five soldiers. He is being grabbed by the leg, arms, and every other limb he has and everyone seems to be pulling him in a different direction. The soldiers who have their hands on him; are attempting to pull him into the crowd of helmets and rifles. There is one civilian who is laying on the ground attempting to pull him back to the rest of the civilians lying on the ground. He seems to be outnumbered and outpowered by the many uniformed men, but he is the only hope to pull the man back to the other people. This is when you notice that these other people lying on the ground seem to be leaning back away from the soldiers. The establishment throughout the South and many parts of the United States was in favor of the already in place laws of segregation. This meant that people had to fight and stand up for the beliefs and rights against an opponent who had money and power. Danny Lyon took many photos throughout these tough, but hopeful times and many displayed and told stories that many people hadn't heard of. This image from Cambridge, Maryland speaks volumes of the story behind this movement that was sweeping across the nation.
