The glamor, the glitz, the glory, and the glitter. Think about it. Little girls look up to princesses. Cinderella is a fairytale that has been told for years and has been an influence on young girls all over the world in many different cultures. Before given this assignment I had no idea that there were other versions out there of Cinderella but I am so glad there are. The Cinderella that you know I guarantee is not the same Cinderella that someone else knows on the other side of the word. Cinderella has the fixed characteristics that make it a story of Cinderella which, are the evil (step)sisters, the happily ever after, and the death of a parent or two. The birds are also helping her get ready for the three-day festival instead of just one night. In Germany they have many festivals and cultural functions of which many of them last more than just one day and some even up to 40 days. The birds make her a prettier gown with each day that goes on of the festival. Achenputtel also disappears in a different way each night so they do not find out who she is but the last night the prince sets a trap and her shoe gets stuck. When they are looking for the owner of the shoe at Achenputtles house both of her step-sisters are told to cut pieces of their feet off to fit the shoe only for them to only ride as far as Aschenputtles mother 's grave where the birds expose each sister as the wrong bride. When they realize this they ask the father if he has any other daughters and he says no. He doesn’t even claim Aschenputtle. He says “only my dead wife left behind her a little stunted Aschenputtel; it is impossible that she can be the bride.” (page#187) In the Cinderella we know the father was sweet and loving of his daughter. The punishment of the stepsisters was also quite different than the familiar version. The sister’s eyes were pecked out by pigeons and condemned to go blind for all that they had …show more content…
Comparing all of the different stories you really get an eye-opening realization of how different we all are in this world. The different Cinderella stories reflect the different cultures and ways of life. These Cinderella stories stimulate the mind forcing us as people or even children to think in new ways even if just in the smallest aspects, it’s interesting to learn about those who are different from you and how they would tell a story that we have been telling our children for years. When you learn about other cultures, you learn that there is more than one approach to life. You also learn that your approach might not always be the best way. Perhaps the cultural heritage of someone else can add another dimension to your life. Learning about other cultures allows you to move outside your own bubble, and find new ways of thinking, and new ways of approaching problems. Learning about different cultures can be a great way of developing an understanding of cultural diversity. While reading these different stories also allows me to understand how much they do actually expose to their children and make me even wonder if they read these still as children’s stories or were they qualified as a young adult to adult reads. I only question this because of the harshness of some of these cultured stories that I have read in my research such as Rhodopis, a Greek slave girl living in Egypt with
