The glamor, the glitz, the glory, and the glitter. Think about it. Little girls look up to princesses. Cinderella is a fairytale that has been told for years and has been an influence on young girls all over the world in many different cultures. Before given this assignment I had no idea that there were other versions out there of Cinderella but I am so glad there are. The Cinderella that you know I guarantee is not the same Cinderella that someone else knows on the other side of the word. Cinderella has the fixed characteristics that make it a story of Cinderella which, are the evil (step)sisters, the happily ever after, and the death of a parent or two. As a child Cinderella was the best fairytale princess of all the stories for me. Cinderella …show more content…
The birds are also helping her get ready for the three-day festival instead of just one night. In Germany they have many festivals and cultural functions of which many of them last more than just one day and some even up to 40 days. The birds make her a prettier gown with each day that goes on of the festival. Achenputtel also disappears in a different way each night so they do not find out who she is but the last night the prince sets a trap and her shoe gets stuck. When they are looking for the owner of the shoe at Achenputtles house both of her step-sisters are told to cut pieces of their feet off to fit the shoe only for them to only ride as far as Aschenputtles mother 's grave where the birds expose each sister as the wrong bride. When they realize this they ask the father if he has any other daughters and he says no. He doesn’t even claim Aschenputtle. He says “only my dead wife left behind her a little stunted Aschenputtel; it is impossible that she can be the bride.” (page#187) In the Cinderella we know the father was sweet and loving of his daughter. The punishment of the stepsisters was also quite different than the familiar version. The sister’s eyes were pecked out by pigeons and condemned to go blind for all that they had …show more content…
Comparing all of the different stories you really get an eye-opening realization of how different we all are in this world. The different Cinderella stories reflect the different cultures and ways of life. These Cinderella stories stimulate the mind forcing us as people or even children to think in new ways even if just in the smallest aspects, it’s interesting to learn about those who are different from you and how they would tell a story that we have been telling our children for years. When you learn about other cultures, you learn that there is more than one approach to life. You also learn that your approach might not always be the best way. Perhaps the cultural heritage of someone else can add another dimension to your life. Learning about other cultures allows you to move outside your own bubble, and find new ways of thinking, and new ways of approaching problems. Learning about different cultures can be a great way of developing an understanding of cultural diversity. While reading these different stories also allows me to understand how much they do actually expose to their children and make me even wonder if they read these still as children’s stories or were they qualified as a young adult to adult reads. I only question this because of the harshness of some of these cultured stories that I have read in my research such as Rhodopis, a Greek slave girl living in Egypt with

The moral of the story was to always be kind and good at heart because those are the ones who will receive their happy ending, or else bad things will happen to you if you are not.…

In the short story “Where Are You Going,Where Have You Been,” Joyce Carol Oates expertly executes the aspects of the horror genre by adding fairy-tale aspects like Cinderella and Red Riding Hood to characters and atmosphere; giving the tale an eerie feeling. The original Grimm Brothers “Cinderella” is much more unfit for children than the Disney adaptation. Disney took the story, modified it, and made it suitable for children, which is good in some aspects, but bad in others. It is good in a way that children can appreciate the story without getting scared or horrified, but it is bad in the way that people don’t know how the story was originally supposed to be told. The replication became more famous than the original, which I think should not be the case. I believe that the original story should be told more often than the adaptation.…

In the Grimm’s brother’s version, the folktale ended violently and fiercely because “the two step-sister’s eyes were pecked out by pigeons for their wickedness and falsehood” and they were blind as long as they lived. According to Maria Tatar the author of numerous articles on fairy tales and also ten scholarly books, “fairy tales have modeled behavioral codes and development paths, even as they provide us with terms for thinking about what happens in our world”…

The difference with Cinderella’s women were that they were portrayed as evil. Many fairy tales have similar and different storylines and themes. Analyzing Brothers Grimm’s Cinderella and Joseph Jacobs’ Catskin with the Propp’s Thirty-One Functions, the Cinderella and Catskin tales are versions of the same tale for they have similar story attributes and themes even though they do not share every function on the Propp’s list. In both tales, a female hero who has a father works as a kitchen maid and is constantly harassed and ridiculed by a maternal figure. In Cinderella, Cinderella is harassed by her stepmother who makes her pick “bowls of lentils out of the ashes only” only to tell her that she cannot go to the festival with them.…
