Although being gay is shown in a negative light using this verse of the bible, that is not all what it has to say about this topic. The act of being gay is shown as sinful but that does not mean God hates them due to his divinely love. Even though it's been thousands of years since the crucifixion it is their that “God demonstrates his love for us by the fact that the Messiah died for us while we were still sinners.”( Romans 5:8) This shows the value that all christians should believe in and that is that God has eternal grace and …show more content…

However, by looking into the specific historical situation in which the text was written, one can find various social and political factors that underline the formation of these passages. Specifically, the factors lead to the belief that these rules were…

Current United Methodist theological conversation presents heterosexual as the normative expression of human sexuality, dismissing gay men and lesbians entirely. UM Church policies ignore the presence, voice, and experience of gay persons, sending the message that they do not matter and that their spiritual existence is irrelevant. This circumstance presents an unjust narrative that silences and prohibits individuals from participating fully in creation and contradicts the mission of the Church. Even though United Methodists are theologically divided over issues of human sexuality, Christian leaders cannot in good conscience marginalize gay and lesbian persons for the sake of convention. Current UM Church policies rely on complicated rhetoric…

In Jesus, the Bible, and Homosexuality the author, Jack Rogers, Professor of Theology Emeritus at San Francisco Theological Seminary, argues that when people oppose homosexuality in the modern world their reasons can be categorized into one of three points of view. He goes on to explain these three points of view saying, “1) The Bible records God’s judgement against the sin of homosexuality from its first mention in the Scripture. 2) People who are homosexual are somehow inferior in moral character and incapable of rising to the level of full heterosexual ‘Christian civilization’. And 3) People who are homosexual are willfully sinful” (Rogers 33).…

Religion and the LGBT community are two groups that tend to clash; however, in reality there should not be a divider between the two as faith continually proves God’s unconditional love for His children. The essay “Gay Marriage: Our Mutual Joy,” by Lisa Miller, explains to the readers the truths behind the Bible and about God’s love towards homosexuality. In comparison, the article “The Religious People Who Give Us Hope,” by Stevie St. John, displays several religious leaders supporting the LGBT community by sharing the true nature of God. Both “Gay Marriage: Our Mutual Joy” and “The Religious People Who Give Us Hope for Religion” make evident of the unconditional love and acceptance of God that is freely given to all His children.…

Homosexuality between Laestadianism and Reform Judaism Homosexuality has been found within the bounds of humanity for thousands of years, dating back to the ancient Egyptians somewhere around the time of 2400 BC (LLC, 2010). Throughout history, it seems many religious groups have not directly dealt with the problem because earlier generations have not introduced the issue. In recent years, homosexual communities, activists, and advocates seeking social acceptance and support have brought the topic of homosexuality into public perception. As a result of modernity, homosexuality has become one of the most controversial and important social rights movements of our time. For the purposes of this paper, two of many separate religious groups focused…

In Growing up Gay in the South: Race, Gender, and Journeys of the Spirit, Sears (1991) provides compelling narratives of high school life for lesbian and gay youth in South Carolina, the heart of the Protestant evangelical South, and the difficulties of the lesbian and youth gaining acceptance in the conservative state. The majority of South Carolinians is conservative Christians (Sears, 1991). Thereby, the conservative Christians in SC are “fervent believers in rebirth and redemption, the blood of Jesus Christ, the power of the Holy Ghost, salvation and eternal damnation” (1991, p. 25). Subsequently, their interpretation of the Scriptures is literal and shapes everyday life as well as legislation in SC (1991). Hence, these strong religious views of the South make it difficult for homosexuals to express themselves openly, because homosexuality is an abomination before God (1991).…

Of course this leads to confusion about homosexuality in todays society. "Our theology of sexuality, then, is based on the premise that God created us to show forth God's image as male and female in relationship. The directive to replenish and subdue the earth (rightful dominion) and to be in authentic relationship (rightful sociability) leads us to a heterosexual norm" (Balswick & Balswick, 2008. p.135). To some, it is possible that a people can have a non-sexual physical relationship with the same-sex and not be gay.…

People are still sinners in need of a savior. As mentioned before, the sinful actions we see in Romans, including homosexuality, are still prevalent today. One major culture problem found in Romans was in regard to the law. Paul implies that the Gentiles seemed to believe that because the law of the Old Testament was not physically written out for them, they did not have to follow it (Romans 2:12). Today instead, we see conflict between Christian values and governmental laws.…

This attitude is clearly revealed in Leviticus 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination” (Slick). This demonstrates that homosexuality is clearly condemn in the bible. This sentiment goes even more in depth in Leviticus 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them” (Slick). This statement is nothing short from harsh towards homosexual individuals.…

With that, it is up to each individual to decide whether or not they are going to follow the commands that God has set in place. Because I believe this, I can acknowledge others rights and abilities to hold their own opinions and practice them, while still disagreeing with them, which is what I do when it comes to others behaviors and beliefs of human sexuality. D – [Your personal decision made in response to your examination of your selected issue] After reading the text and trying to integrate that knowledge from a biblical perspective, I realized that although some cultures and religions have similar values and practices to those of Christianity, they are all flawed in some aspects, some of those being their belief on homosexual relationships, marrying for status or economic gain, divorce without much consideration or without valid reasons, changing ones’ character and appearance to appeal to others, and women being subjected to the desires of men with little to no voice. Cultures have different beliefs and practices and knowing some of the difference between them has provided me with valuable insight. The text explains the Christian and biblical perspective on human sexuality fairly well and mostly aligns with what some…
