I believe that it is a shame that in 2008, 12.7 million people were diagnosed with cancer and an additional 7.6 million people die from this tragic disease. The World Health Organization states that in the year of 2030, this statistic will grow to 21.4 and 13.2 million respectively (Fanghua, 2010, p.297). But, what is cancer. Cancer is a disease caused by non-stop division of cells and it can happen almost anywhere in the human body. People who are stricken with this disease are people who are loved and will be missed when they inevitably die. They are willing to endure the pain and suffering for the smallest chance of more time on Earth with their loved ones. This disease can happen to your loved ones or even yourself. The United States’ government is refusing to help them to have a greater chance to win their fight with cancer. The United States’ government is keeping a viable treatment away from people who are desperate for a chance to live. The United States’ government is denying them access to cannabis. Cannabis has already been accepted as a pain reliever for chemo and radio therapy patients. However, Cannabinoids have the power to help these miserable patients’ pain and discomfort evaporate by eliminating the need for chemo and radiotherapy (Bifulco, 2006, p.123). Cannabinoids have been shown to increase apoptosis in lung cancer cells (Haustein, 2014). Cannabinoids are a group of chemical compounds that affect Cannabinoids receptors in cells. Cannabinoids have been shown to increase apoptosis in colon cancer cells (Izzo, 2009). Cannabinoids have been shown to stop the transition phase in the mitotic cell cycle. You can visit change.org and sign the petition associated with using cannabis as a cancer treatment. Then, write a letter to Bobby Scott. As, our congressman, he can bring this to the attention of the federal government. With this attention, more people will be compelled to sign the petition and write a letter. Lastly, we all need to send a letter to the FDC citing the research that has been published. We need to demand answers to why this researcher is not acknowledged by them. We need to demand that they explain why this research is not valid, and we need to demand that they conduct their own research, since it is the tax payers more that funds them. By doing this you are doing your part to allow cancer patients access to every possible treatment. This will allow the patients to have the best chance for winning their fight with cancer and being able to spend more time with the people who love
