Argumentative Essay On Cancer

Cancer is a disease that requires extensive research because of how deadly it is, the amount of various people it affects, and because of how many different forms it comes in. Cancer is major health issue for everyone in the world, not just the United States. Cancer begins as a defect cell in the body that has gone rogue. Normally, cell growth is strictly regulated by the human body, but a defect cell will start to multiply exponentially at their own speed. (National) As the cells continue to multiply, tumors can start to form. However not all tumors that form from defect cells are considered lethal. Those that are not considered lethal are called benign because they do not spread elsewhere in the body. (National) Those that do spread though …show more content…
Diets , lifestyle, viral infections, exposure to radiation or chemicals, and inherited genes are all thought to play a part in cancer development, but without more careful study no one will know for sure. There is quite a difference when it comes to most common and deadly cancer based on the geographical area. For example in Asia, South America, and Central America, cervix cancer is the most deadly for women there. In North America and Europe, females find ovarian cancer as the most deadly. (National) For men in Eastern and Southern Africa oesophageal cancer is more common as they record the second and third highest rates of it. For some reason however, Central and Western Africa have the lowest occurrences of this disease. (National) There should be some insight in those specific areas that have the lowest rates. If scientists looked into it more, they could perhaps help the other areas who struggle to avoid oesophageal cancer. Since cancer has been around for ages with the first recorded diagnosing of this disease being as early as 4,600 years ago, it would be easy to think that someone somewhere in the world would have found a cure for it. (Mukherjee) Maybe it has to do …show more content…
Not only did it affect 32.6 million people in 2012, it also spread to new people, as a new 14.1 million cases were reported in that same year. The number of new cases is expected to rise 70% over the next two decades. (WHO) Prevention methods have been made such as avoid or modify tobacco use, obesity, unhealthy diets, lack of physical activity, urban air pollution, and ionizing and nonionizing radiation. (WHO) While some of those things seem manageable, others seem impossible to control. Urban air pollution is not something someone could just make better at any moment 's notice. If person A were to live in a place where a great amount of pollution is made into the air due to companies’ work, how are they supposed to stop a company from polluting the air. Sure, someone might say the easy solution is for person A to move, but what if that person do not have the necessary funds to move. What if they could not move due to having to stay close to a loved one, or just finding it difficult to accommodate to a new lifestyle in a new place. People in China have to deal with great air pollution everyday, so much in fact that some people have to wear masks just to walk around their streets. Of course they would love to live somewhere else, but how are they supposed to find a new job and new home in a place like China where there are already laws in place to limit the amount of children families

Most types of cancers come with age because cancer causing cells become more potent and cancerous as we progress over time. According to medical experts the older one gets the more the likely hood of “genetic mistakes” happening to cells. According to Crawford (2003), Prostate cancer is the second most leading malignancy in the Western Countries. Merriam Webster defines cancer as a serious disease caused by cells that are not normal and that can spread to one or many parts of the body (Citation). One thing that makes the treatment of cancer so difficult is the similarity that cancerous cells have to ordinary, healthy cells. There are only two prominent differences between cancer cells and healthy cells. The first is the termination of the apoptosis process, which is responsible for killing cells with potentially harmful mutations before they can cause damage. The other is the rate at which cells go through cellular division.…
