Argumentative Essay On Campus Improving

Can you picture our campus improving? Do you feel like we could build a stronger campus by becoming school activists? As a first time student at Southwest College, I was bit puzzled by students not being socially involved. I did not come across any social groups, the campus did not have a cafeteria, and the school was short on staff. I was not excited about attending the college but, I still managed to give it a try. On the first week of school there was a shooting, I was not satisfied with the security at the school. I remember sitting in my math class when I suddenly saw a girl and a few other guys coming into the classroom screaming, “A shooting just happened on campus!” A few students in the classroom panicked and others like myself were …show more content…
As I walk through the campus I see two food trucks, half of the time I don't want to stop because both trucks are filled with students and they always seem to sell the same things. Sometimes I have to drive all the way home in between classes to enjoy a meal. There aren't enough healthy food choices in campus and outside of campus. This affects our health, our gas, our time, and networking. This may be a reason why we don’t have enough social groups. The school seems dead. Not enough information is being posted on campus or the website. We have little to almost no resources and there is not enough encouragement. Where are all the activists? It seems like everyone at the school is to their self. How are we building a better school with any type of involvement? We need to take action. Lastly, I want to mention that our school is not organized. All of the offices including the bookstore seem to always be closed. Is the staff lazy or are we short on staff? There is poor communication at our school. It’s been a couple of times where I had to purchase scantrons and there was no way for me to get them because the bookstore was closed without …show more content…
While some students may disagree with having a cafeteria and may feel like funds should elsewhere the school needs a cafeteria. What school doesn’t have a cafeteria? Our school is more than just a place of study. We need to take care of our body. Our health comes first. Two food trucks aren’t enough trucks for the school. We need bigger and better. Some students may also disagree with social groups and having students volunteer in school offices but, the truth is if we don't have social groups we won't be developing our social skills. This means you won't be building strong relationships and may have less opportunities in advancing career and academic prospects. Having students volunteer may sound bad but, everyone needs training. Even first time workers at a job might do bhad on their first day. We should create opportunity at our campus and support each

Adapting open campus lunch to high schools would prepare the students to that next step in their lives and when going to for example college they would have already had some experience about open campus. ” 95 percent of the students use the privilege responsibly” (Saslow "Schools Split on 'Open Campus'") Also, the students would become more mature and learn to take care of themselves since their parents aren’t always going to be there to look after them. Some parents might be concerned about the safety of the students but if they would really think about it, they would probably realize that letting them out late at night is even more risky than letting them go and get their own lunch during a school…

In the eyes of a teenager, most are going to take a greasy slice of pizza before going for the salad, because of this two courses of action are needed. The cafeteria are going to need to throw out their unhealthy food, their pizza, their hamburgers, their chips and their hotdogs. This can easily be done, it is as simple as just not ordering these unhealthy choices in the first place. The next step is to introduce healthy alternatives that are low in sugar, fat, sodium, cholesterol and preservatives. Some may say that it is impossible to order such a massive amount of food from a source other then a big mass producing food company.…

First if we got a one million dollar grant I would be shocked. I think the students would want to but everything. The staff would not let that happen though. What’s Wrong with Student Governments.. (Glass, 1975) Lack of support from students; student apathy is present across campuses, If students are to view student government or any student organization as an effective and meaningful arena for participation, then it has to be so. Bureaucratization, elitism, and under representation; the often complex bureaucracy which often times parallel administration/federal government is one which students do not understand and acts as a barrier to participation. Many organizations have an undemocratic representational structure which do not guarantee the representation of all students in a proportional manner (example – at large elections).…

FOR Jennifer White, a senior at North Shore High School in Glen Head, an open campus has meant the freedom to leave school at lunch time, as well as during other free periods, to work on independent research projects. This, Ms. White says, is a privilege she cannot afford to lose. However, if the School District decides, by its targeted deadline of mid-November, to close the high school campus, students no longer will be permitted to leave school during the time when they are not in scheduled classes. The current policy at North Shore High School, which has been in effect for more than 15 years, allows all of the 547 students in Grades 9 through 12 to leave campus during lunch or other free periods.…

Starting at a young age parents begin to coddle their children, painting a picture of perfection to better protect the young mind from the harsh extremities of the world leaving children oblivious to what really goes on and how biased things actually are. In a public learning environment children begin to notice how different their peers appearances and beliefs are. While commonly frowned upon, students begin to socially profile others and form into groups or cliques, separating themselves from others who they consider different. In a college environment students become more intellectually and socially advanced. Stronger words, ideas, and subjects are discussed and can often lead to a sense of discomfort or offense, creating an uncomfortable…

Argumentative Essay: Flaws of the Education System There are inherent flaws within the education system which we use today pushes students far beyond their limits and it lacks emphasis on practical skill. Schools create a needlessly high stress environment basing their future upon numbers and grades rather than teaching and refining their practical skills. Lots of potential is flushed out of the curriculum due to college and high schools insisting that students must be able to juggle advance courses, maintain high unweighted GPAs, and participate in extracurricular activities in order to succeed in the future; hence, repairing and recognizing the inherent flaws of the education system is crucial to ensure that students earn the future that…
