Barbara Jordan In the beginning of the collection makes a quote saying “We as human beings, must be willing to accept people who are different from ourselves.” Now weather i agree will be discussed after the facts are all down and a side would be chosen. Burning Flags is a way of getting messages across and a way to get free publicity in the political agenda that needs to be brought up. Now the cases that were discussed in the textbook have a good deal of context that set them apart and context that make them similar. Now weather the way the express them selves in texas is illegal or how citizens in general are pushing for the ability to express themselves freely. These differences and similarities tie in to our rights and should we abide …show more content…
Majority Opinion. In the state of texas it is illegal to burn flags for any reason whether it be political or nonpolitical agendas. The majority of the state request that this be allowed because it is apart of their right to speak out and express themselves in which the way so choose. Texas respond that the burning of flags would threaten the peace and would cause some time of rebellion of some sort and would rattle the calm nature of citizens. Now the freedom of speech is a right that every american citizen obtains at birth. As an example, if texas made a law that prohibits the use of say tobacco and makes it illegal and if people smoked cigarettes and put them out on a texan flag and burned it it would be slightly odd but it is their right to express the way citizens feels on any conflict. American citizens also strongly believe in expressing their right of …show more content…

This causes some tension if at anytime someone brings up the fact of rallying fellow supporters and now anyone who doesn't like the way they block streets or prevent you to go to the store it irritates people. I personally don't think that discrimination is a good thing but it should be looked at when speaking of freedom of speech ` The discrimination of protesters is an understandable thing. Now everyone must see both point of views and decide whether it is good to protest or we should all deal with it. Now you would of course support a rally so no discrimination and think it's good and that no harm is being done. For other people though they view protest, protestors annoying. They can be a hassle to deal with it an annu science and an inconvenience that can ruin plans. For the cause that they are trying to bring to the state may be important and it must be presented a certain way of in which it will be

Those who oppose do not necessarily dispute the presence of injustice or racial discrimination and need of a peaceful protest, they just do not agree with the method of protest. Some argue that during these games, fans from all races and backgrounds gather in the stadiums to watch a match. So, such an action puts the whites and other non-African Americans at an awkward place. The discrimination creates more deep division and misunderstandings (Cohen). This, therefore, infringes on the right to gather and the fan's right to enjoy the sport.…

The First Amendment should not defend flag desecration because the flag is venerated. Also burning a flag is an action of behavior not an act of speech. Since most disapprove of flag burning, the government should have a right to ban it (Whitman). While using flag-burning as a way to express anger towards the government, it is very controversial whether it is right or wrong. Some may believe that the First amendment should protect this action, however some believe that the burning the flag should be handled differently and not protected because it is offensive.…
