Argumentative Essay On Bullying And Suicide

Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year.Of that number 1 in 10 students drop out school for repeated bullying.However as society incarcerates these teens it increases the 60.3 billion put into the Criminal Justice System.Although people argue that bullies can push victims to commit suicide and other acts of violence; bullies should not be held responsible for acts of violence their victims commit because it can not be proven that one action caused such a severe reaction; also it is not the responsibility of the law to get involved with student bullying.

Federman also argues that “People commit suicide for many reasons, including separation…..substance abuse…...past trauma…..depression….mental illness”(Federman).Bullies are not the only aspect that affects victims acts of violence and should not be responsible for these acts.In a artical based on a victim of cyberbullying,Amber Barry, it claims “Miss Barry wetn through depression and even considering taking her life because the taunting was so sereve”.Even if Amber Barry was pressured to the extent where she took her own life, she was also influenced by other emotional issues; therefore not making bullies fully responsible for their victims violent actcs.

Nevertheless, bullies should not be liable for their victims acts of violence because this would expand our Criminal Justice System; being the cornerstone for increasing the incarceration budget and pulling more money out of society’s pocket because of simple teasing and the influence of personal emotional issues that lead to a sudden and severe reaction. Society needs to reason with government to find a reasonable punishment
