It was a nice warm Sunday afternoon with clear skies. There was tension in the air as everyone waited to hear those famous words: “Racers, start your engines.” Those words shattered the calmness of the day as the roar of forty three, nine hundred horsepower small block V8s screamed to life. The area surrounding Charlotte Motor Speedway’s oval track was hosting one of America's most favorite and historical sporting events.
Many people look down on this sport because they believe it is simple, stupid, or even redneck when in reality that is not the case. NASCAR, or the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing, started out in the forties and fifties as bootleggers came together and raced their cars, which were souped up for running moonshine to see who had the fastest car. As more and more people found out about this sport, they started to come just to watch the races. Soon, NASCAR grew into the multi-billion dollar sport it is today. …show more content…
But now the speedway was finally in sight but it seemed so far away and the streets are lined with lifted trucks, and family cars. I’m thinking to myself “I hope we can park closer to the track than here, this has to be two miles at least!” people lined the streets and I felt as they were all friendly to an extent as we all are there for the same reason, we have a passion for fast cars. We finally made it, we’re in the gates! We are at our seats ten minutes before the race is scheduled to
