The Birthplace of All Things Superstitious
For almost 60 years, the government of the United States has been hiding secrets from people all around the world. The secrets have transformed into questions, all regarding one particular place in southern Nevada. These questions have a million answers, and yet none at all. When questioning the existence of Area 51, it all comes down to this: are there UFO’s and extraterrestrial life inside the facility? Or is it all just a big hoax? In 1947, there was an incident that caused many accusations to be made towards the government concerning Area 51. There were unidentified pieces of wreckage found on a ranch not too far away from the military base. These would later believed to be the remains of an UFO crash, but were labeled as pieces of a hot air balloon to the public. Workers from Area 51 came to handle the wreckage and ended up taking all the remains to the facility. In the article “What Really Happened in Area 51” Swift writes, ‘Jacobsen writes that her unnamed source was one of five engineers to eyeball the crashed saucer at a secret research facility in the desert in 1951, four years before the Groom Lake air base opened a short distance away. He saw Cyrillic lettering ‘in a ring running around the inside of the craft,’ she reports. There were controls in the cockpit, but the craft was apparently flown by remote control” (Page 3). This piece of evidence supports the idea of the government taking UFO pieces to Area 52 because the source was a person who has seen and took the remains of UFO wreckage to the facility. For example, in the article “CIA Concedes Area 51, but Won't Cop to Aliens” Northern Territory News states, “Area 51's location has been an open secret for years but government documents released previously had not acknowledged its existence and role in such a detailed way” (Page 1). If the government wouldn’t even admit to Area 51’s existence, who knows what could be inside of it? This piece of evidence proves that the government is very secretive about this area for a reason because it shows how desperate they are to keep Area 51 a secret from the public. Another quote that supports this theory comes from the article “New Secrets of Area 51” by Bill Sweetman, which states, “The only vantage point for observers is Tikaboo Peak, unreachable in winter and 26 miles from the tightly secured base.” How tightly secured? This quote from “What Really Happened in Area 51” by Earl Swift answers that question: “Up in the desert above Las Vegas hides a dusty air base ringed by towering mountains, buffered by an atomic testing preserve and guarded around the clock” (Page 6).
