Walking through a rancid room filled with dusty shelves completely cluttered with cans and bags of animal food disgusted me. As I continued to walk through this animal shelter that was only thirty minutes from my home, I realized the animals in this place were not taken care of properly. They were unhappy and clustered together. This completely opened up my eyes and made me think about what had happened to my animals before I took them home. Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to help people and animals. I used to beg my parents to bring me to shelters, but they knew that we would end up with another animal because I would get so attached. I have learned some steps that could be taken to help these poor animals and to regain their trust …show more content…
Emma is my heart and soul and she has brought so much happiness into our home. I am so grateful to rescue a dog in need and give her a good home. Emma was just four weeks old when she was rescued from a high kill shelter. Her mother had been put in the shelter because of her breed, while she was there she had nine puppies. The puppies were taken away from their mother and put in a separate unit of cages. To this day she is afraid of water because the people at the shelter sprayed the puppies with hoses. People believed that Emma and her eight siblings would not be able to find forever homes because they were very afraid of people for obvious reasons. I move through the next room and see the “unadoptable dogs”. Most of these dogs are aggressive or too skittish to find forever homes. Emma was a very scared little dog when we first rescued her. She would stand in the corner with her tail between her legs because she was afraid my family was like the people at the shelter. With a little work, Emma is now one of the most loving dogs I have ever had. All these dogs just want love and attention, and I wish that I could give it to them all. Animal shelters in the United States are getting out of hand. The problems with these shelters can be easily fixed with a little hard work. These animals have done nothing to deserve how they are treated. Many people do not agree with many shelters due to the awful conditions. Animals need love just like people

In this convergence poster there are several things that make up who I am, On the poster there is a picture of me and four rainbow trout that I caught when I was seventh grade. Me and my grandpa went down to roaring river along the Missouri and Arkansas border. It was a weekend early October and we decided it would be nice to get out of town and go do what we love to do, we mostly fish for crappie and sunfish, but we thought it would be interesting to try and fish for trout and with roaring river just a five hour drive away and restocks trout daily we jumped in the idea. My grandpa and I got up at six A.M. the next morning to fish because the alarm goes off at seven, we fished for six hours and I was so mad because the water was crystal clear and you could see the fish just looking at your lure, my grandpa told me to just keep trying and around eight a’clock that evening they started feeding and I caught over ten pounds of trout that day.…

Topic: Adopting and Rescuing Animals Specific Purpose: To persuade my effective speaking class the benefits of adopting a pet over buying one from a breeder or pet store. Central Idea: Adopting animals and rescuing is much more beneficial than buying an animal from a pet store because you won’t be unknowingly or knowingly supporting a puppy mill, you will be saving an animal’s life, and you will feel better overall in the end about rescuing your new pet rather than buying. INTRODUCTION Attention-Getter: According to Humane Society of the United States organization’s website I accessed on December 6, 2016, “Each year, 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States, simply because too many pets come into shelters and…
