Argumentative Essay On Abortion

Since 1973 when the Supreme Court issued its ruling on abortion in the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton cases, abortion is still seen as one of the most controversial debates in America today. Although these cases have legalized abortion until the second trimester, the argument still stands on whether or not these should be legal at all. To even begin this debate, it is necessary to take a look at the framework involved on both sides of the argument, ProLife and ProChoice, to determine if either side is effective in the message for the policy they are trying to pass. Now, lets take a look at the argument for the ProLife campaign to start. ProLife claims that an unborn fetus deserves basic human rights even before it is living outside of the womb. The rights of the unborn child challenges the laws already put into affect by congress. The motto for their campaign, as stated on the organizations website, is: “Helping Moms, Saving Babies, Ending Abortions!” (ProLife.com). While I do not believe that ProLife is necessarily wrong in theory, I do think that the message it sends to individuals does not capture what kind of rights are or are not associated with having an abortion. Clearly each side of the argument has a completely different view on what they believe the policy on abortion should be, but the framework regarding the issue seems to be the same and that would be the argument of Rights. In the case of abortion, whose rights are more important, that of the mother who is expected to nurture and raise a child, or that of the unborn child who has yet to live a fulfilling life. I believe that both sides of the argument are heavily debated in the media, not just through protests seen on the news in front of abortion clinics, but also through social media platforms. However, I believe ProLife is seen as a more prevalent entity in the media, giving gruesome details and videos about what actually happens during an abortion. I
