Argumentative Essay On ACT Scores

Colleges look at many different things on a person’s application. They look at one’s GPA, the classes they took, their extra-curricular activities, and many others. One of the most important things they look at is a person’s ACT scores. An ACT score is something very important and most people take that for granted and neglect to work hard and study for their ACT. A question used in many debates is should the ACT affect one’s college application? Why not have it? Standardized tests have been a part of the academic world since the early 1900’s (ecampustours.com, 2015). There is an old saying that comes to mind when discussing this topic, “ If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” If it is used to help others further a career than it should not be taken away. Yes that is very impressive, but there is a problem with that. None of those colleges are in the highest ranked in the US. Ivy League colleges, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Yale and the University of Pennsylvania, are the highest ranked schools in America. These schools require people to have a combination of ACT, SAT I, and SAT II tests on their application to attend the University's. If the colleges that have extremely low acceptance rates for they want the best people to go there , and they require a past of standardized testing. This shows that the other colleges should make a change and keep the standardized on an application. It would not only affect the college itself but it would show others what they have to do to make it into that college.
