Pros And Cons Of Renewable Awakening

A Crude Awakening
Fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal have been burned as a source of energy for many years, but are they safe and lasting? Renewable energy, on the other hand, has been around for centuries. From the water wheels and mills of the Middle Ages to the photoelectric effect in solar panels of the early 1900’s, renewable energy is constantly being renovated and improved upon. Due to fossil fuels’ negative effects on the environment and lack of supply, renewable energy should be used in substitute. When fossil fuels are burned, greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases trap heat around Earth’s surface making temperatures slightly warmer and changing the climate. In the past fifty years, the Earth’s

The lack of oil found in the U.S. has left the nation to depend on other countries as energy suppliers; however, renewable energy would allow the U.S. to become self-sufficient and prepared for an international crisis. This newfound self-sufficiency would also cause energy prices to plummet, boosting the economy. Many wars and conflict have risen over the control of oil and other energy sources, but future conflicts can be prevented with the increased use of renewable energy sources. In addition, renewable resources can also lead to an abundance of new jobs. For example, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 would have created around 1.7 million jobs and required all retail energy suppliers to have at least 20% of their demand come from renewable energy. At the time, the Senate was more interested in cleaning up the Gulf oil spill and did not want to address climate change, so the bill was rejected (“American Clean Energy and Security Act of …show more content…
Energy relates to sociology because it allows for the advancement of society. Technology, one of the faster changing aspects of society, is dependent on some sort of energy, renewable or not. Cars, computers, and cell phones are just a few examples of frequently used products that require energy. Our society is one that is highly dependent on energy, so it is hard to imagine how much daily life would change without energy. As industry and education are becoming more reliant on computers and technology and as fossil fuels run low, we are being forced to find a new source of

There are many different types of renewable energy types “Although both wind and solar power have expanded across the United States and become more cost-competitive with fossil fuels, they are still emerging industries that could decline without more consistent policy support” (Power). As long as people keep looking deeper into sustainable energy the industries will keep thriving to replace the use of fossil fuels. As of today ”Natural gas and oil, for example, have benefited from more than a century of federal subsidies supporting research and development, increased production, fuel transportation, and facility construction” (Power). The replacement of fossil fuels has also slowed down the use of the remaining natural oil left on earth. We know that natural oil is a renewable resource but it just doesn’t restore itself as fast as the other natural resources and it destroys the ozone layer unlike the others.…

One of the major problems facing our world today is global warming. “Global Warming is the increase of Earth 's average surface temperature due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth” (“ What is Global…”, n.d.). There is a major difference between global warming and greenhouse gases. The greenhouse effect is a natural process in earth’s atmosphere that maintains the average surface temperature. It is caused by certain gases such as water vapor, ozone (O3), carbon dioxide (CO2), and methane (CH4), and traces of chloro-fluoro-carbons (CFC 's).…

One more cause is volcanic eruption; for sure it will cause global warming. When the volcano erupts it will release a huge amount of carbon dioxide and ashes to the atmosphere. Whenever the carbon dioxide increases the earth will get warmer and the greenhouse gases will trap the radiations in the earth. Finally, methane. Methane is another issue that causes global warming.…

By increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases, we are making Earth's atmosphere a more efficient greenhouse. Climate has cooled and warmed all through the Earth history for different reasons. Fast warming like we see today is strange ever. A portion of the factors that affect climates, such as volcanic eruptions and changes in the amount of solar energy, is natural. The environment can change if there is a change in the amount of solar energy that gets to the Earth.…

In addition, it’s renewable and produces less carbon emissions into the atmosphere while decreasing pollution. Decades and decades can pass by and renewable energy will still be available for use. “No doubt it is currently getting scarcer (oil), and as a result more expensive, but current estimates suggest we will not actually run out until between 2025 and 2070.” (carboncounted par. 4) “However, as other fossil fuels run out, particularly oil, the use of coal may increase, reducing that time span considerably.” (carboncounted par.6) The cost of alternative energy will eventually subside because the U.S with not have to borrow a great amount of resources from other countries. We would have produced it naturally in our own…

This is a great concern to many environmentalists who say that this problem needs to be resolved now due to the diminishing amount of oil every day and all the impact it has on the earth. It’s hard to say when prices will go back up, but economist and special agencies like the International Energy Agency say that prices will continue to drop for a bit longer due to oversupply, but will start to normalize after U.S production from fracking decreases. Now this is all in a laissez faire economy, but thats never true because many nations especially those in OPEC and the United States are continuously making new deals of trade that will have an impact of prices of oil…

Solar panels alone won’t solve our energy issues but 500 million would still provide a lot of power. Hillary’s problem involves her stance on both fracking, her indecisiveness about the keystone pipeline, and dodging around the idea of nuclear power. Hillary’s opinions are not clear and sometimes outright contradictory, she is currently anti-fracking but endorses it to other countries, and she has recently also flipped on her opinion of the keystone pipeline. Her plan is also real similar to Bernie’s requiring years to set up grids for solar power and will be massively expensive. She does have a much better chance however being much less extreme than Bernie on her plans for promoting alternate energy.…

Solar Energy, the Superior Alternative Energy Fossil fuels are bad for our environment, and in an economy that is struggling, there is no point in pouring billions of dollars a year into an energy source that is killing our other resources. This kind of spending and reckless destruction of our environment will eventually have to stop. The question is, when burning burning fossil fuels ultimately ceases, where will we turn? There are many forms of alternative energy that are accessible to us right now. These energy sources will eventually have to be used in the place of burning fossil fuels to provide power for our world.…

Global Warming Effect Long before humankind inhabited the Earth, climate has varied from place to place in a naturally variable manner. We have seen areas go from warm to cold, wet to dry and back time and time again. This natural occurrence with Earth’s weather patterns have never been put under extreme scrutiny until recently. The temperature on Earth is rising and scientists believe humankind is having an adverse impact on Earth’s ability to handle the increased Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. Lutgens and Tarbuck (2014) stated that Earth’s tremendous industrialization of the past two centuries is driven by burning fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas, and petroleum, resulting in large quantities of CO2 into the atmosphere.…

When fossil fuels are burned and bonds are broken, they can release greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (N2O), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and water vapor (H2O). Greenhouse gases contribute to the Greenhouse Gas Effect (main cause of global warming) which traps heat in the atmosphere. With fossil fuels being burned in the last 150 years, there has been a 25% increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and increased levels of nitrous oxide and methane. CO2 levels have increased past the threshold of safety at 350 parts per million (ppm) to 400 ppm. This increase in greenhouse gas emissions has caused the average surface temperature to rise about .6 degrees Celsius.…
