Legalizing marijuana has become more of a problem now than it was in the past. In today’s health care problems, medical marijuana has proven itself more than worthy to be up for the part of helping with mental as well as physical diseases. I believe medical marijuana should be legalized for the medical patients who suffer from mental illness as well as physical disease. Earlier this year, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Senator Chuck Grassley, Senator Patrick Leahy, and Senator Tom Tillis introduced the Cannabidol Research Expansion Act which would help scientists further their research on the medicinal drug without dealing with federal laws for certain patients needing medical marijuana. PTSD also causes stress and anxiety to one’s self. People with PTSD, anxiety, and stress have more psychological problems than people without. Some believe that medical marijuana is better than the over the counter drugs because the side effects are different. Over the counterdrugs may solve one problem, but can cause two or three more to pop up. Medical marijuana has only been reported to make the person mellow or laid back. PTSD patients suffer from high levels of anxiety. Medical marijuana has been thought to reduce the stress levels one suffer from this psychological disease. The THC from the medical marijuana is already made inside our minds. When taken, the THC levels increase, making our brains respond with laid back actions (Rivas). Cancer has been around for ages, and just in the last decade there has been some answers found on how to cure the disease. Chemotherapy is always one of the top suggestions. All chemo does is give the patient radiation that kills the cancer cells, but also kills the good, healthy cells causing sickness and pain throughout treatment. In today’s society, the youth take more advantage of its ability to change their mental state. I realize that is one of the reasons as to why the government doesn’t want to pass it as a legal drug. It will also have a big effect on the society itself.
Lenience of medical marijuana should be more open for people, especially those who have a mental or physical illness. I believe that allowing people to have the option of medical marijuana as a medicine should be given more thought. The positive effects of the drug definitely outweigh the negative side of the drug. It still being illegal as a medicinal opportunity is really unnecessary to those still suffering from diseases.
