Argumentative Essay: Is Christmas About Chocolate?

Decent Essays
The Christians will not agree that Christmas is about chocolate.

However, for us who are not Christians, we can see that Christmas is about chocolate.

The supermarkets are displaying the various nicely wrapped boxes of chocolate in prominent place.

The minute you enter the supermarket, you will see rows and rows of chocolate.

The consumers buy a lot of chocolate to give as gifts.

Some of us like to make use of the special discount to stock up on chocolate for our own consumption.

It helps that the weather is cooler than usual, and a bar of chocolate is very comforting in cold weather.

I really cannot imagine a Christmas without chocolate.

Like Water for Chocolate RWL #1 Throughout this quarter, I’ve deepened my understanding upon the common theme of “conflict”. Over time, as I was being given language arts content, such as the reading “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, the short story “By Any Other Name” by Santha Rama Rau, and the film “The Debut” that our class all watched, my knowledge grew upon the matter and I grew comfortable identifying key types of conflict. Literally, conflict remains present within everyone; whether it’s as small as a miscommunication between a quarterback and wide receiver or as big as a unhealthy situation existing between a husband and wife. Now, before my comfortability with it gets iced up like Tony Romo in the playoffs, I’m prepared to discuss what I’ve encountered in the first three chapters of our class’s recently introduced novel “Like Water for Chocolate”, published by…

Australia day commemorates the anniversary of the arrival of the first fleet on the 26th of January 1788. To some, it means the beginning of the dispossession of aborigines and the lost of their culture, but to others that was the birth of a great nation. This time of the year sparks many debates on whether Australia day should be celebrated or not. Chris Berg contends that the emergence of Australia as a great and powerful nation cannot be pinpointed to a certain date, nor is the 26th of January necessarily a date to rightfully celebrate on in his article ‘there is much to celebrate on Australia day’, in which he adopts an evaluative tone. Alternatively, in her article ‘changing the date won’t fix Australia day’, Celeste Liddle argues rationally…

Christopher Columbus should most definitely be judged by today’s standards, and the idea of continuing the celebration of this absurd holiday should not be up for discussion.…

An extremely rare occurrence is on my calendar for this week. I get to have lunch with my dear friend, Lindsay. Although in many situations, it is wise to follow the advice of, “Don’t accept anything from strangers,” this commercial provides an example disproving that theory. By offering a stranger Coca Cola, both the girl gifting the drink and the man receiving it are pleased. People commonly consider Christmas to be the giving season, so by having the girl give the man the gift of Coca Cola, the company is once again relating the brand to the holiday. This shows viewers that Coca Cola is the gift of Christmas. Although the company has been creating specialized Christmas advertisements since the 1920’s (coca-colacompany.com), the claim that Coca Cola is the “Taste of Christmas” is still a bold one.…
