How would you feel if you were walking on an open street amongst many people, being the innocent individual you are, but the whole time you get funny faces, people starts to pick up their pace, and starts to judge you simply because of your skin color? Brent Staples is an African-American male in the United States of America. Because of his race, he is often accused for being a “mugger”, “rapist”, or a “criminal”. In his essay, “Black Men and Public Space”, he describes various events where he encounters people of the opposite sex, or opposite race that are afraid of him simply because of his skin color. “Black Privilege: Exploring consciousnesses to de-problematize and normalize blackness” Black privilege is a construct virtually unexplored to the masses. In theory, only white supremacists have ventured to name the phenomenon, though incorrectly. However, such a thing as black privilege may very well exist. But it is no way comparable to white privilege in its meaning or benefits.…
Ever since 1787, and even before, African-Americans have struggled to gain political, legal, social, and economic equality. Although some national and state government programs were constructed to help African-Americans with this perpetual problem, it is also the same state and national government policies that expanded this problem. In fact, this is still a problem that persists today. The national and state governments definitely have gone a long way in providing African Americans with political, legal and social opportunities; however constant setbacks have lessened their effectiveness. Beginning in 1787 there was an unspoken guarantee that all states had the option to decide whether or not they wanted to be slave sates.…
A lot of people view this question and automatically think of the group of people that demand justice for black lives. We should not only associate that question with the group and whether we agree with all of their procedures, views, and beliefs, but rather the actual question. Do the lives of people with dark complexion matter? “Do you fully acknowledge the unique injustices that have been and are being committed against African Americans?” (Marino 6).…
Black Lives Matter is ethical to a certain extent depending on who is talking about this topic. The reasoning behind the controversial movement is of course for bringing light to the injustice that has been done to the black people not only about the police brutality but on a global level. It’s about how humanity are creatures of habit going back to the racial divide in the 1600s to unfortunately present day. It is also supposed to uplift and acknowledge diversity. However, is this just another way to segregate “us” versus “them”?…
African Americans have a long and difficult history in the United States. They were once property that could be bought and sold. They once had separate water fountains, bathrooms, and schools than whites. They had to fight for their rights in America and even though they have as many rights as every other American under the letter of the law, there are areas in which they still have to deal with undo ridicule, harassment, and injustices in our society.…
Black Lives Matter is a black liberation movement that has spurred controversy throughout the country because of their numerous protests and has caused many news sources to write articles arguing for or against their protests by use of ethos, pathos, and logos. The articles that will compared are from The Star Tribune and Black Lives Matter’s website (blacklivesmatter.com) and are titled “Milwaukee violence detracts from goals of shooting protests” and “A Herstory of the #BlackLivesMatter Movement” respectively. Both articles use different ways of persuasion, Black Lives Matter’s website uses three instances of pathos and a two occurrences of logos to influence the audience to support their movement, and The Star Tribune’s article, on the other hand, main…
For many people in the society everyone is afraid of the police that they will do anything in their power to have their own control of handling the issues. Whether others had a bad experience with the police officers which could lead the officers into danger that people will put into their own hands which no one will be winning at this situation. While people claim there is a war on cops, the fact do not support this claim; not only are there already enhanced punishment for offenders who assault or kill police officers, but also police officers who use violence against unarmed and non-violent suspect rarely face criminal punishments for their actions. Also, this problem is still happening in the society as 2 police officers killed responding…
There has never been a better time to be black in America than now as we continue to preserver. “The Civil Rights Movement, which was essentially integrationist gave black people in the U.S their first major accomplishments of the decade.” (Karenga 2010 Pg.153) Black people have shaped the underlying values and attitudes that has changed the way we can live in America today. Continuing to progress politically, economically and socially, Black America is in a state of transition.…

Argumentative Research Paper: All Lives Matter vs. Black Lives Matter Paul Farmer once said that “The idea that some lives matter less is the root of all is wrong with the world.” This simply justifies what has been continuing in the United States which is Racial Discrimination. Knowing that racial discrimination is still persistent in America, African Americans have been one group that is constantly targeted. August 9th of 2014, an African American male who was eighteen years of age named Michael Brown was killed in Ferguson, Missouri. The Black Lives Matter movement (BLM) is one of good intentions, but a variety of flaws. The execution of BLM tends to be one that is counter-productive. The creators of the movement state that it is one that “…is an ideological and political intervention in a world where Black lives are systematically and intentionally targeted for demise. It is an affirmation of Black folks’ contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression” (Black Lives Matter, 2016). Most people believe that black people get treated differently in society and that is not okay. Although in some scenarios, African Americans put themselves…
