He says rap music is harmful and dangerous when carried out. When he was younger he lived in a very poor community, so music was their only influence. He wanted to be like all the gang members he heard about in music. He listened to N.W.A. and became a gang member like the rappers were. While that may be a way they cope with what their going through, does the hateful music actually help them? Music with a positive message could help teens with their feelings in a positive manner. In a recent study, they found that teens acted better towards their peers when they listened to positive music (Walker). While the people who listened to hateful music acted rudely to their peers. They then had them react to certain situations. The kids who listened to positive music responded more quickly to help someone in need, than the kids who listened to hateful music. Across the world, music helps people find a peer group that identifies with themselves. Rap music helps express the struggles of black experiences. The lyrics of rap music helps them cope with their pasts. Some of the most famous black rappers came from an awful background. A lot of the lyrics in these songs, are things rappers dealt with growing up.
