Gun Control not Gun Prevention Guns are the tools to reinforce safety and to safeguard the lives of many people. Although in modern America there is always a conversation somewhere regarding gun laws. Those involved in the chatter are often quite passionate about their feelings on the issue. Guns will always be around, either in the hands of criminals or the freedom fighters of America. Gun ownership should be controlled not stopped. People should be background checked for criminal or terrorist activity before purchasing a gun. Common respondents of a Firearms Licensee Survey study said “ It is too easy for criminals to get guns (Wintemute, Garen). Any person, of age, is able to purchase a gun no matter what his or her background is. This is why background checks should be implemented into gun stores. On the other hand, having guns banned would mean there would be less guns for the American people to use to defend themselves. If a criminal were to break into a house or mug a person, that house owner or person has a higher chance of defending themselves if they were to possess a gun. Yet, if guns are prohibited a person in danger could not defend his or herself from an assailant of any kind. As a result of this, guns should not be banned, they should just be controlled. In conclusion, there should be gun control and not gun prohibition because people have the right to own guns and guns have saved many lives. America is the ‘Land of the Free”, but you cannot be free if you cannot defend your freedom. Guns save lives everyday by people who uphold their part of the Constitution.
