Our second amendment right states, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”. This amendment means that any person in the United States has the right to own a gun. But, at what point does this right not stand true for a person? I feel that our right to be able to bear arms is a part of our individual rights and should not be taken from us. Guns have been around for centuries. In an article on CNN, Gregory Krieg writes about Gun control in America: How we got here (Krieg, 2016). On at least 6 different occasions in the last 100 years, lawmakers and the White House have come together to agree on significant overhauls to federal gun laws (Krieg, 2016). President Barak Obama talked in an hour long CNN Town Hall Meeting about his plans to disclose a series of executive actions designed to help prevent gun violence (Krieg, 2016). President Obama continues to try and increase the gun control laws just as quite a few presidents have based on current mass violence. As you will see each time there is a public shooting or shootings, Politicians demand stricter gun laws. I feel that a person should be allowed to own a gun and to be able to carry a gun as well. This act would impose a tax on the making and transfer of firearms defined by the act (ATF, 2015). The guns included were shotguns and rifles that had a barrel of less than 18 inches in length, machine guns, firearm mufflers and silencers. These guns were recognized as being used in gang crimes. The tax that was imposed was two hundred dollars which has not changed to this day. The act also required all sales of firearms to be registered in a national registry. In this act the government was trying to protect the country and the citizens from the gang type crime members using what was considered to be the weapons of mass
