Gun Control In recent years, many mass shootings have occurred around the United States. These mass shootings have brought up many debates on gun control, or laws that regulate buying, selling, and other things dealing with guns. These debates have three sides to the argument: wanting gun control, wanting no gun control at all, or wanting some gun control but not completely all of the deals that go along with it. Gun control needs stronger restrictions but does not need to go to such extremes as taking away guns from those who respect the Second Amendment. In the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment states that American citizens are allowed to keep and bear firearms. This Amendment was passed in 1791, bringing gun control and gun rights along with it. Evie Blad in “Educators Join New Fight to Block Guns in Schools; Effort to prevent laws to arm school staff is under way” says, “Moms Demand Action only supports guns in schools if they are carried by trained security guards and police officers” (1). This would allow teachers to have protection from a shooter that is in a school. The teacher would be able to shoot the shooter in a matter of seconds and possibly have no fatalities. Allowing teachers that do not know how to operate guns is not very helpful to the gun control debate, but teachers that do know how to operate one would save many student and teacher lives. Blad adds, “A 2015 CBS News/ New York Times poll found that 57 percent of all respondents opposed allowing teachers and staff to carry guns in schools, though the idea was more popular among Republicans” (1). Democrats do not want students finding a teacher’s gun and making it dangerous for themselves and other students.
