Although I Believe it starts with the desire of each individual student to become successful, they’re not in total control of their success; parents, teachers, the school systems and student’s environment interferes big time and help them or hurt them depending. Charter high schools have 7-11% higher graduation rates than public high schools, so in this case, the school system interferes with student’s success. For example. KIPP is a successful charter school, it is one of the nationwide network of free open-enrollment college- preparatory schools. one thing that KIPP has that Public schools don’t is a Longer day schedule.One study showed that longer school days resulted in a big jump in test scores, Some Students just really need the extra time so they could understand their lessons. There are three types of students, students who are really familiar with a specific subject (group A), students who just do what's asked to get a good grade whether they truly understand or not ( group B) and students that aren't familiar with the subject but they work hard to understand and meet the requirements (group C). Group A usually feel superior and too motivated to work hard and challenge themselves which stops their mental growth because a challenge is needed to go to the higher level and Whenever you focus on the higher level of challenges, your existing challenges become smaller and you feel confident again. Most students in this situation though feel overconfident and they think they just know all the materials and they don't need to work harder which stops their mental growth, these students have a fixed mindsets they’re now just like Group B similar situations both don't want to grow but only do what they already know just to “get a good grade” or because they simply don’t want to put effort. However, group C is the total opposite, they could exactly do what the other two groups do but they choose to put much more effort and willing to challenge themselves which leaves them with a great
