America has the reputation of being the epicenter of fast food and obesity. The masses typically blame the fast food industry themselves, rather than blaming the people purchasing their products. To an extent, the fast food industry plays an ultimate role in the nationwide obesity issue. The constant advertising reels people into their restaurants, increasing overall sales. Regardless of whether or not individuals choose to eat their products, most are uneducated as to what exactly they are putting into their bodies in the first place. The problem is that these restaurants often fail to provide important information, which should be required when purchasing a quick meal. An overall lack of knowledge is causing our nation's populace to continue to consume these products. The omission of serving size/calorie information from restaurant menus, the proverbial desert in terms of healthy options available, and especially the enormous calorie counts that come within the product are all factors contributing to the obesity epidemic.

A majority of the public claims that “if the health-care foundation did more to encourage these kinds of simple policies in the home, they may make some progress” (Weintraub). Yes, the public is to blame for multiple reasons behind this issue. When it comes to obese children, it is ultimately the fault of the parents who allow their children to eat unhealthy foods and sit in front of the television or computer for hours at a time” (Weintraub). Overall, it is understood that it is the public’s decision whether or not to purchase the company’s product. But, these companies should be able to provide the healthier options for those who rely on cheap, quick meals.
