Argumentative Essay: Do We Need Gun Control?

Gun control is an area of much debate, as there is a demand from one group of people for it and some people are against restrictions. Whether it be from the horribly outdated idea of the Second Amendment or trigger happy people who can not get enough of their guns, many people support the use of guns. There are many people who feel less passionate towards guns, and view them as a constant danger to their lives. These people are particularly more metropolitan, and see things like shootings happening near them. The laws surrounding gun control in a city environment are focused more towards rifles, rightfully so, but handguns should be restricted as well, since they are just as, if not more, dangerous. For the people in cities who feel lesser of guns, there are laws in place restricting the things they fear. In the city of Boston, a handgun can be carried with the permission from a police chief. The close range of a handgun makes it much more fit for city-like combat. This in combination with a smaller bullet meant for close range only solidifies it as an ideal close range weapon. Also, the fact that it has a smaller barrel restricts it to closer range, as it would not be as accurate. The rifle’s medium to long range capabilities restrict it to rare long lines of sight in a city. Although it has a larger .25 to .45 caliber bullet with a greater kill power, its small magazine makes it less than ideal for any gun related crimes in a city. The only thing that the rifle is much more dangerous in is the fact that it is very customizable. The use of sights or a longer barrel can make the gun much more deadly in any environment.
