Argumentative Essay: Divisions In Youth Football

Youth football is leagues of children from the age groups of 5-15 all divided into their own divisions. Each division has age groups to determine where the child is placed. These divisions are known as tiny mite ages 5-7, mitey mite ages 7-9, Jr. Peewee ages 8-11, and then peewee ages 9-12. This is the full contact tackle league. The controversy with this is that kids shouldn’t be playing full contact football at that early of an age. While others disagree and say that there’s no harm they are ignoring their children’s safety along with their mental health. With new regulations and a flag football division for the kids with parents who don’t want their children playing full contact football. Divisions in youth football such as the peewee division should not be allowed because constant head trauma is dangerous to a child's mental health and at that age the brain is still developing. …show more content…
They officially set a limit to contact in practice/scrimmage. The new rules include no full speed head-on blocking or tackling drills in which the players line up more than 3 yards apart are permitted. Another rule is that practice will be reduced to 1/3 time. Rule 14 was also reiterated with new tackling and blocking techniques. The rule state that there will be no more butt blocking, chop blocking, and face tackling or spearing techniques (Pop Warner).
